The fact that I don't go by my 1st name also complicates things a lot.

I was speaking specifically about my work passwords. I'm not even allowed to put them in a password safe. I MUST memorize them... It is company policy and the punishments are harsh if I get caught.
As for my personal passwords... They are encrypted and only visible to me in my private password vault (at least that is what LastPass says) after I put in a master password. It is supposedly pretty secure and most Security experts that know A LOT more about this stuff than I do say that password vaults are the way to go.
Just putting them on a piece of paper or in a clear text notepad file on your phone is not secure.

For my work passwords, I pick a color, an animal and a piece of clothing/something I wear. Then I replace the vowels with symbols... S with $ or 1 with ! for example. I'll change up which letters are capitalized. I typically end up with a 16 or so character password that is pretty easy to remember. At least I think so... I've been using that system for years and so far so good.

I adopted that in May of 2018. They're #!@%!#@!@ hard to remember if you have an episode like this morning where I am literally sitting here like uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh **** wtf is my password
