Default Realistic Daily Driver? (Oahu)

Hi everyone,

Pleased to make your online acquaintance. It appears that my family and I will be moving from the mainland to Mililani in July of 2019.

I have a MY00 AP1, stock with soft top, except for RPF1s 17x8 / 17x9 +45. I don’t think that I’ll need Recon. Can anyone confirm?

More importantly, is the S2000 (at stock height) a realistic daily driver if commuting from Mililani to Honolulu? Are there numerous unpaved parking lots with large potholes, such as on Kauai? Do primary roads flood often? What obstacles to DDing exist on Oahu that I probably don’t know about?

I plan to commute by public transit, and I’ve done a lot of research on commuting times and contingencies. I’ve been DDing my S2K around Chicago for two years, and I accept the additional wear and tear in exchange for daily enjoyment. I’m just wondering how much additional wear and tear I can expect on Oahu.

Edit: We also have a Toyota FJ Cruiser, but I’d rather get more than 15 MPG from a DD.

Thank you kindly for your time.

and congrats on the move. you do not require recon for your wheels. yes, you can dd your AP1 without any issues.
oahu roads are notoriously bad especially by construction areas so just be careful and try to avoid any potholes. you'll get normal wear and tear but so does any other daily driver.

Thanks bouford! Chicago roads are terrible, so I’ll expect the same and hope to be pleasantly surprised.
