The good news?...
I swim a mile 4x a week....and do a few 25meter sprints!
The bad news?....
I swim with my head -up...I know..it's not the most efficient
and it can be hard on the neck but I'm having trouble
getting my breathing right when swimming head down!
I'm a cyclist..obviously...my sn..but I love swimming
even though head up..I'm 6'5 185 and swimming especially
the sprints omgosh you just breathe sooo hard..crave it..
and my body is really cut..I get up at 6:30 and swim my 45mins..
and I'm a trucker so it makes my DOT physicals easy!

I had the same issue. At least it sounds like you guys are comfortable in water. I still can't wade in water. Just put your head down and do short distance and try breathing every two or three strokes. What I found to be the issue with myself was the exhale. Just didn't exhale enough to get air when my head is out of water. Three years ago, I couldn't swim 15 meters. Just did short distances and then pieced it together.

Good advice....

I swam in high school and college and then was totally burned out on competitive swimming. I have been recently thinking about getting an endless pool because there are limited options in my area for lap swims.
At 45, I get in the water and can't believe I was once a very good competitive swimmer. I am very far removed from being in that kind of shape and having the skills. It feels so foreign to me now but I guess time and aging have taken a toll.
