Which would you prefer for an 01 s2000?

obviously you get more peak power with the vafc, but is the midrange comparable between the two?

 

with the VAFC you can pretty much lean your ECU out as much as you want,


its cheaper, you can keep your OG keys no reprogramming,

VAFC II FTW

 

The 02-03 ecu will keep its settings.
The vafc will loose its part throttle settings over time due to the ecu re learning its ratios.

Moving to S2000 talk

 

Takes 30 sec to reset the ecu and "unlearn". And the WOT will keep the VAFC corrections.

AEM EMS is the best however...but is stand alone, more expesive to buy and tune, but the gains are much higher.

There are two modes for fuel in ECU's. The close loop mode where the ecu runs on pre-set fuel maps. And Open loop (or WideOpenThrottle) where the engine guesses at how much fuel is used by taking readings from the 02 sensors.

The learning mode comes into play with the closed loop fuel maps, where it'll alter the entire map based on the engine running too lean or too rich. This is why VAFCs don't create power throughout the entire powerband when driving normally. Under WOT, the engineers dump fuel into the system to make sure the system runs too lean, too lean = boom, so they would rather be safe. Since there is no ECU-learning or adapting in the open loop mode, the VAFC can shine because you can tune the car better.

i was looking into that, but i've heard the e-manage doesn't always work as its features advertise.

still looking it over....seems like a good middle ground. but i haven't seen much usage with it yet.
