S2K Challenge Series #6 Results - 5/10/09 - SOW
We have now passed the halfway mark in the exciting 2009 S2K Challenge Series. The sixth S2K Challenge event was held on 5/10/09 at Streets of Willow track in the Willow Springs International Motorsports Park. This time around, we ran the clockwise configuration; back in 3/6/09 (S2K Challenge #3), we ran counter-clockwise. Hard to argue which configuration is more
First lap was best. Braked about 20 ft too deep for T2 and that cost me. Lost 2nd place to Jaku by .011!.
Testing our new Xida double adjustable coilovers made by AST. William called me last night and talked me into coming so I worked through the night installing the coilovers and rear camber adjusters. Did no realign or cornerweight and just guessed at ride height. Needless to say, the set up was er, not quite right
. We'll do some more testing, add some power, add some lightness and give Mark a run for the money next time.
I have to say, this is just the most fun you can have with your daily driven S2000. Even with the heat, lacking sleep and set up not right, I had a such a blast on track. The caged Miata is fun and all but simply loading up the trunk, flipping on the A/C, cranking up the tunes and cruising back home in the S was a nice way to end the day.

Wow, I had an amazing time in my first s2000 challenge! Somehow I found 2 seconds in the heat of competition to end up with a best of 1 32.75 for the day, which got me 5th in street class. Stock suspension and street tires are seriously killing me though...PS I was the red AP2 with racing stripes (good for at least 15hp) who went off right before the bowl earlier in the day, coming within 10ft of hitting the fence going sideways...

Wow looks like fun! Shame that its hard for me to find time on weekends for these s2k challenge track days. Looks like I would have been very competitive on my home track in modified class. I was there last thursday with Jaku clocking off high 1:26's. Maybe even a mid 1:26 for a best laptime. Oh well....should of could of.
