A step by step DIY vented rear bumper. picture hvy
Well i hve been thinking about doin this for a while now, but i really just decided last night. So i went to walmart and got some masking tape, new blade for my jigsaw, black silicon, a thin sharpie, Aluminum grill cover thingy, and a monster. This morning when i woke up and got to it.. ( i got up around 1130)
What i did first was taped off where i though would be a good spot to cut out. straight lines and some form of measurement device a must! i carefully placed tape where i needed it and then used an old roll of electrical tape to make curved edges.

Then i covered what i didnt want scratched with some blue painters tape.
no pic sorry
the next step i did was to remove the bumper.. not as hard as i thought it would be.. i just set in on an old bar stool we had..

now we get messy... use a drill to cut a starter hole in your bumper for your saw.. i used a jigsaw.. worked pretty good.

make sure it is big enough for the saw blade to fit..

follow your lines carefully.. there is no need to rush.. this part took me about 30 minutes to finish all the holes

i used a sanding sponge which i would NOT recommed but smooth the edges down for a clean look.. if you have a steady hand you can dremel it but good old fashioned elbow grease is the best way.. for me at least. you can use some touch up paint to color the edge but i did not..

ok.. now tat we have finished cutting our perfectly good bumper. we can now remove the tape! lets see how it turned out..

not bad for my first time
lol now go ahead and flip the bumper over
i used the grill covers as my mesh. just painted it black and cut it to fit..

now i used some black silicon as my adhesive. i wanted to find some epoxy but they didnt have any.. make a nice thin line all the way around the opening in the bumper..

carefully place your cut out in the appropriate spot and you will want to weigh it down with something so it will stay.. i used some wire and a hammer and a stple gun. something heavy but not too heavy.. also i put alot of silicon on each corner as a safety net.. i would recommend this..

let these dry.. not a bad time to clean up alittle too
once they are dry, remove the weights..

how did i get good at stuff.. i dont know.. lol repeat these steps on the other side

once everthing is dry, put the bumper back on.. its that simple!! just take your time and you will get something like this!

i hope this helps everyone in there quest for vented bumpers.. let me know how it goes for you!! GOOD LUCK!!
