Supercharger Questions
Hi Guys,
At some point I plan on adding the Comptech supercharger to my S, but I'd like to get some background on it first.
Is Comptech really the way to go, or there other options (i.e. the Vortech system) that I should consider?
What power levels do you typically see after adding the supercharger?
With the increase in power, are there any unforeseen problems such as decreased lifetimes for the transmission, limited slip diff, or axles?
Lastly, the setup seems relatively simple. I'm no certified mechanic, but I know my way around an engine bay, so is this kit something I could reasonably install myself? Or should I just find a professional mechanic? Last thing I would want to do is screw something up.
Thanks for your advice and have a happy 4th of July!

I have a Vortech, but you do have other options....the kraftworks kit which is the same as the comptech and Vortech...and also, you have the BRP-SOT S/C which is a roots type blower.
I got 310whp(dynojet) after S/C install with only a clutch and test pipe.
I'm sure it'll decrease the life of the car overall, but i don't plan on keeping my car for 200k miles.
average install by a novice would be around 12 hours.

Both comptech and vortech are comparable to each other. The comptech is easier to install as you do not need to remove the oil pan to tap it. The vortech will give you more horsepower right off the bat. Anytime you add more horsepower than what a car was designed for you are gonna increase your wear on drivetrain parts. But both these kits are not too rough on the drivetrain in stock form. If you raise the boost levels you may run into a need for a new clutch. You can expect go get around 270-310 whp from adding the supercharger kit. I installed my vortech myself was not hard at all. Took a whole weekend and I took my time to do it right. The instructions cover everything you need to know. Other options you may consider are the Kraftwerks kit, Greddy turbo kit or the Science of Speed supercharger kit. I do not have experience with any of those though.
SOS looks really nice right now. Probable the cleanest looking kit hands down. Very pro
I've always been a fan of the idea behind the BPR/SOT...
Kraftworks also seems interesting
Both of the chargers you've mentioned are bulletproof and have thousands of road miles... which means something in the long run.

The comptech and vortech use traditional centrifugal charger. The KW uses a rotrex which is still centrifugal but does run at a higher rpm which means tq available earlier and more power for psi. The KW kit will put u at around 360-380 whp and 240-250 tq at 10 psi.
