Several reasons:
1) talked to a few shooters that does track work and they ALL have no regrets
2) handled the D3 on the weekend
3) iso capability, CLS
financially it makes no sense. glass is more expensive and Canon still holds the upper hand in EF mount lenses; but the cls system ALONE was enough to make me consider. Add the D3 into the mix and it was hard to ignore the pull. For recreational stuff, I can pickup old nikon mount manual focus lens for cheap.
those are the major reasons. The minor reasons are how the Nikon system is designed. Minor nuances that most amateur won't mind over one or the other; but for a paid gig on a time crunch, it's good luxury to have on the system.
It took me a while to finally do this.
