Oil filter wrench that lets you torque to spec
Just bought a wrench from Honda dealer(a non-honda part). Wanted to torque oil filter to 16 ft-lbs as service manual says. Wrench slips easily. I wedged some sand paper along the inside of the wrench and it finally gripped without slipping. Is there any way around this? Besides using a strap-tool and counting the #s on the filter... I literally had to chisel the wrench off the filter after I was done and would like to avoid this next time...
Not long ago I bought a PCX filter at a Honda dealer in Santa Ana, CA, the filter wrench was included in the package for a total of around $10. The part guy at that dealer said that each PCX filter package has a metal wrench.

Not true. I have virgin unopened cases of "PCX" filters and there are no wrenches in there

In the same way, my dealer sells generic wrenches in place of OEM. The BASTARDS!
I had 2 free oil changes when I bought my S2000 at Santa Ana Honda Nov 03. When I took my car in for second oil change on Nov 04, I saw a PCX filter in the display case, I asked the part guy how much for a PCX filter and how much for other filter (PLM ?), I was told the standard filter was about $6 or $7 and PCX filter was $10, he told me each PCX filter came with a filter wrench, because PCX filter is larger than standard filter and it needs special wrench, that why it costs a little more than others. I bought one PCX filter and I got a filter and a metal wrench in a sealed plastic package. The metal wrench came with filter seems to be very constructed.
I had no reason to tell a lie about something so trivial. May be my local dealer bought some PCX filters last year that way and it is not come with filter wrench anymore. I will go back to that dealer soon to buy some oils with a coupon: free oil filter for buying 4 or more quarts. I will post later what I found.
