Started up this afternoon in wicked 98-degree heat and was greeted by a scrolling display Check Fuel Cap. I did, and it was tight. I know there were problems with this on earlier years; anyone know of an MY06 specific issue?
thanks,
Dave

The 06 tells you to check the cap, that's the only difference. When the Temporary DTC clears itself after the EVAP monitor runs, the check fuel cap warning will go off on it's own.
If the CEL comes on after you have tightened the cap, then you have another issue.
Tighten the cap then drive normally. If the CEL comes on go see the dealer.

When I checked the cap it was tight - I always do at least 3 clicks - habit from my old Accord... Removed it, and reinstalled, per the manual, so I guess we'll see if the CEL comes on...
thanks!

i dont know about the '06, but on my '02 i have to push on the cap to give it a little pressure to cap tightens all the way. I found that if I jsut twist the cap, it will turn and then give me the clicks (more than 3).. then i drove and my cel came on. I took it off and then tightened it again. the cel went off. the next time i filled up.. i did the cap myself and found that I needed to put some downward pressure on the cap to actually grab fuel neck and really tighten.. may not be your problem, but this is what i have experienced.

Thanks, Jal3lee, I'm accustomed to pushing down - the Accord would throw this code often, but I will certainly pay more attention now.
If the tightness is the problem, how soon will the code clear? 3 days? 5 days?
thanks all for the help!

The 02's have a TSB on a deformed fuel fiiller pipe that doesn't let the cap seall all the way even with 3 "clicks"
That's why pushing down while turning works on jal3lee's car. You should not have to push down while turning to make the cap seal.

my ride does the same thing but the only thing i did was take the gas cap off and put them back in tight and reset the battery. The cel never came back and im not sure if that was the problem but i didnt come back at all. im assuming that if its something serious the cel will come back even after i reset the battery.

It is a bad idea to reset a CEL by disconnecting the battery (I assume that's what you meant by "reset") without downloading the code first. The CEL may be due to any number of problems, and if you clear the ECU, you'll never know what it is.
It sounds like the '06 cars have a more sophisticated reporting system. If you know the problem is the gas cap, thighten it and wait. It usually takes about 5 driving cycles to clear an error code.

crap!!! i guess im screwed but oh well, its been done and if they come up again, i will cel then probably reset the battery afterwards. My concern was, if it was really serious, the cel will show again...so far so good and il keep an eye on it..thanks for the info
