Default How to reset ABS Light?

So I'll tell the full story later, but a yellow with black wire was cut in my engine bay near the ABS unit. The car drove fine, but the ABS light was on.

We soldered in a new wire, but the light is still on. I found discussion about resetting the light but not full instructions. Could someone please help me out? I would really appreciate it!!

You should just have to cycle the ignition. If the ABS ecu stops reading the fault the light will go off on its own. I've had a loose ABS wheel sensor that threw a code...once I tightened it up, the light went out...no reset required. Occasionally it takes a mile or two of driving to have the light go out.

Did you check the continuity to make sure the solder joint was good?

You may need to get the code read in case it is something else. Only a dealer or shop with the appropriate code reader can pull it. The OBD II won't show the code.

But I read a thread on here about a guy who had the same problem and was able to do something to check the code. It said something about starting with the break down and something about jumping two pins on the OBDII connector.

Here's the thread: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=561730

OK...here's the procedure from the Helm's manual:

1) With the ignition switch OFF, ground out the SCS using a jumper on the Data Link Connector (DLC). See the following for instructions...it is the same procedure that is used to pull the blinking CEL codes:

http://www.modifry.com/freebies/old/dtc/index.htm

Here is a pic of the jumper:

2) Press the brake pedal and HOLD.

3) Turn the ignition switch ON (position II) while continuing to hold the brake pedal.

4) After the ABS indicator goes off, release the brake pedal.

5) After the ABS indicator comes back on, press the brake pedal again.

6) After the ABS indicator goes off again, release the brake pedal.

Awesome, thank you for that!

Will I need to remove any plastics or anything to get to that connector, or just squeeze on under?

I'd look myself now but dinner's almost ready and no room in the garage without moving the bike!

Are you sure about that? On my 2002, reading and resetting the ABS code does NOT happen via the OBD2 connector. You have to use a special connector that is for the ABS system memory only.

That might have changed for the 04+ cars, I suppose.

Nope...nothing to remove...the DLC is on the driver's side on an 04 just above your right knee.

Are you thinking of the SRS? That's how it is set up. SRS DTC cleared via 2Pin MES (Memory Erase Signal) connector.

Yes, sorry. I was thinking about the SRS, not the ABS. My error.

Also, the ABS will reset itself with some driving for most errors (as long as the errors are actually fixed). The SRS will not.
