Default Motul 300V 5W30 UOA

Figured I'd throw this out there; just got it back today.

My air filter was pretty dirty (as was postulated by Blackstone for the last sample based on the high silicon reading). I changed my filter about 1/2 way through the latest sample, and the silicon reading dropped. Note that Virgin 300V already contains 10 ppm silicon, so even with the dirty air filter, the oil filter and air filter were performing admirably.

Also, I attribute the (unusually high for this oil) breakdown of the previous sample to the high temperatures. I was tracking the car in 100+ ambient temperatures. That sample included 2 track days (about 200 minutes of constant 6000+ rpm load) + my usual "spirited" driving.

The latest sample includes only one day and the usual drive.

Note that my daily commute is 7 miles of lights, and may include a few 2nd gear pulls... highway underpasses are tempting.



Virgin 300V for comparison.

Nice UOA. It's interesting that the viscosity isn't dropping at all.

The oil is advertised to be ultra-resistant to shearing. I discovered it during my affair with a STI; the Subaru WRC team used this straight off the shelf (albeit a heavier weight)

Maybe ask for a TBN next time?
To see how much of the 11.1 is left after 4-4.5 k miles.
Shearing is not a problem so you probably could go longer.
Get your money's worth.



Side note: to have an oil that does not shear out of grade is IMO normal.
Its marketing to call that "ultra-resistant to shearing", according to ACEA specs it is a normal requirement.

I don't know about the "not shearing", because every single conventional oil I've tried sheared out of spec (the two oldest samples above)

Even Motul 8100 sheared to the low end of the "acceptable" range (sample taken at 21200 miles above)

looks great, the silicon doesn't look as bad when you factor in the virgin number, so really good overall. Good run with this oil. I'm shooting for a way to get single digit iron wear numbers on my car if possible, though your iron numbers are decent. What oil were you running on first two OCI's in 2008 ?, they look really well also, some form of low Moly oil - Syntec or Amsoil ?.

Is this motul ester based like the other oils they offer?

what were the details on the other oil samples tested above?

also, I think we could get a sticky made just for the UOA/VOA???

Yes, this is a PAO based oil. (It smells good.... ) 300V is the top of the line oil.

The two oldest changes are with Valvoline 5w30. The 3rd oldest change shown is Motul 8100 5W30. The others are all Motul 300V 5W30.

in your mind what do you think has contributed to motuls seeming inability to shear...if anything by this information get thicker?
