Default Q's for those who have driven Europe?

For those of you who have done Route Napoleon, Stelvio and St Gotthard can you tell me whether:

RN is better done north to south or south to north or does it make no difference?
Stelvio: again, Italy to Switzerland or the other way

Much appreciate the help.

Rahula,

Stelvio is South of the border between Austria and Italy. If you like going up hills, then the climb from Bormio is better. Dont forget to stand in front of the webcam when you are up there!

get yerself over Grossglockner - Austria's highest pass and very scenic. There are hotels on top of the moutain, so enjoy it. Prob one of the better alpine passes in my opinion.

Also consider Col de l'Iseran (Val d'Is

Rahula

If you want more information then the book "Motorcycle Journeys through the Alps and Corsica" (3rd Edition) by John Hermann is very useful. Also this website:

I'd be willing to take the 550 back to Modena for a service for you. As long as I don't have to pay

Well you wouldn't get much of a service in Modena. Now in Maranello you'ld have a chance!

We're off to the San Marino GP on the 20th and have a Factory visit booked for Friday 22nd so pics in due course.

We thought about attending the MC GP the week before but felt that we had more to achieve instead by spending time seeing other places. I also want to drive on the roads there which I am told would be impossible on days before and after the GP weekend. My trip has a lot of compromises in it but mainly because I have my wife with me and it has taken much persuasion to convince her this trip is a great idea and bribe her with a proper beach holiday in August.

Welshman: thanks for the link, I have looked at that already and a few others including: (if others want to plan a route sometime in future)

So back on topic:
Which route from Cannes, RN or the one Neil has suggested?

Rahula

Thanks for the other links. I knew the first one but had never seen the second one.

The ZZR 1200 owners have a meeting in the Dolomites in early September so all this info is very useful.
