Default Saab 9-3?

Well, I've been in the market for a new car lately, and I've mostly been looking at E36 328's and B5 A4's at the $10K price range... so today I went to a local used european car outlet that specializes in audis. But I came across a very nice 2000 Saab 9-3 Viggen, beautiful car in seemingly great condition for $9900. 2.3L 230 hp four banger turbo. I took it for a test drive and it was awesome. Firm suspension, great seats, wonderful engine, and a pretty good 5-speed. It has 100K miles, had one owner, carfax checks out fine. But I'm curious about the car, because I've never known much about it. Has anyone here had any experiences with one? Is 100k miles a little too much? I'm starting to look around some saab forums but they're not very active and there's not much info on the car.

The 9-3 Viggen is perhaps the reigning champion torque steerer. Other than that, I like the looks, and the interior is assuredly Euro. What year is the car? Not sure about reliability, but if it's got 100k on it, it must have been pretty dependable. Not many of those cars will have mileage like that.

My oldest son had one that he got high mileage.. it was a good car, pretty dependable. It drove nice. He didn't check the oil often enough and fried the turbo, that pretty much totaled the car.

I had the opposite experience, had a turbo and it was the biggest POS on the planet in terms of reliability. The chassis was rock solid and it went through fender bender with a deer without a scratch (the deer didn't fare all that well )

Biggest problem was the FI engine. It was just too many things breaking and too costly to fix. I did dig the key by the stick shift though

I've always heard that Saab owners love their cars and stick with it forever. I've also heard dentists love Saabs. I hope I'm not a future Saab owner...

Check with the people over on SAABcentral. The Viggen is quirky but I love the cargo space and the seats are perhaps the most comfortable seats in any car today.
