Debate: Bird's Eye View & Bird's Eye Navigation...
So my friend was showing me his new car and he says it has the best navigation out in the market. He tells me the car sports a "Bird's Eye View" Navigation. I told him every navigation out now are seen from a "Bird'e Eye View". He disagrees saying that Bird's Eye is not looking straight down from the top but from an angle! OK:
1. What is the definition of Bird's Eye View?
2. The streets and roads in the navigation can be seen at an angle, not like MapQuest but almost 3D. Is this called Bird's Eye View? If not what should it be called?
Please help me settle this THANKS!!!

i almost want to say he's right based on quick research.. Bird's eye is at an angle and the one from the top straight down is aerial view....
so when the nav shows you a slight tilt/angeled view of the maps, that's bird's eye.. not quite 3d yet, but not flat either..
flat is aerial...
ok nm other way around.. flat = birds eye and angle/tilt = aerial according to wiki haha.

The terms aerial view and aerial viewpoint are also sometimes used synonymously with bird's-eye view, but are not as precise: bird's-eye view almost always specifically means looking straight down, perpendicular to the surface below. The term aerial view can refer to any view from a great height, even at a wide angle, as for example when looking sideways from an airplane window or from a mountain top.
Bird's Eye View = Straight Down
Aerial View = any view, wide angle, looking sideways.
While I do not know the correct terminoligy, I know that msn live search calls Bird's eye view the view that is looking at an angle. To see this, click this link:
http://maps.live.com/?q=&mkt=en-us&FORM=LIVSOP#
and then on the left side of the toolbar select the second option and click "bird's eye view"; you will see an angled view rather than what they call map view which is straight down.
Again, I am not saying they are right, just an example of what MSN states.

yeah i think it depends on what the manufacture of that nav decides to call it. i think the terms have been jumbled and what not that it could mean either or depending on who you ask or what company is making the nav..
