Off-topic TalkWhere overpaid, underworked S2000 owners waste the worst part of their days before the drive home. This forum is for general chit chat and discussions not covered by the other off-topic forums.
mugen will be much more expensive, besides, if you get the front clip and the rear clip you must have the mugen intake and mugen SS exhaust as well - which runs another 1500 for each.
but if you go with the mugen front half-spoiler - that pushes out the lip and not the big smiley face and get the rear three piece spoiler - it will be a bit more subtle and not attract attention. it really depends what you are going after when you are redecorating your car.
There is one huge distinction between the two "kits" ... The Veilside stuff is not designed to improve anything besides the car's looks - and we have all seen how subjective that is. Personally, I find the Veilside body kit to be absolutley horrifying on the S2000...and most of the other cars that Veilside makes stuff for. That, as I said, is a purely personal choice...and to each his own. Go for it if you like it...
That said, the main distinction between what Mugen offers for the S2000 is functionaloity. The Mugen pieces are wind tunnel tested, designed and built to compensate for some stock aerodynamic inadequacies. The Mugen parts cannot be considered a 'kit' as most kits don't provide anything but aesthetics and Mugen's first priority is performance, not looks. In another sense, though, the two offerings that Mugen offers for the S2000 are designed to work together...just look at Scott's car (the black one) and Nick's car (the red one) on www.kingmotorsports.com ... two different packages to achieve mostly the same aerodynamic goals...
When we visited the Mugen facility near Tokyo, they opened all of their research to us and showed us the results of their testing and how they compensated for weaknesses they found - primarily lightness/lifting in the tail, but a lot of other things, as well.
It's all subjective how things look to one person and so on. But you aren't really comparing apples to apples with the Veilside kit and the Mugen pieces. They serve two very different purposes...
I choose Mugen too, specifically SS2200 kit.
I was so happy to see Nick's car in person, and I totally fell in love with the design. So I incorporated SS2200 best I can to my car except the front. Not that I don't like the front but I already had different front facia and wanted to keep it for a bit.
Not many people know that the entire kit except the adjustable wing is made out of carbon fiber. Not only it is very light but extremely durable and strong.
The only weakest link in the SS2200 is the adjustable wing, which its price doesn't reflect the construction and the finish in par with other SS2200 component and also in order to achieve respectable use is to have the top-up or use the Mugen&Honda hard tops.
I also like the Mugen three piece rear spoiler very much. Photos do not do justice, you have to see it in person to appreciate the beauty. So far I've seen red in person but in photos I've seen in are white and silver and they all look great.
Veilside is definitely geared for yonger people.
Mugen seems to be more towards mature people.
yeah, i'd have to agree wiht you on the younger ones liking the veilside. I dont mind the veilside, like the front (not so much theback)
i'd like to see what the mugen one looks like, seems like the exaust is really high up, like in the middle of the bumper? is it higher then the stock location!?
Both look pretty good i think, havent seen many mugen ones on S2000, just veilside ones. Thanx again for the info! Nice car!!
