Today I had the Clarion 6 inch sub woofer, JL 6.5" coax speakers and a Crossfire 70W amp (to get more power to the speakers) installed today and it is a MAJOR improvement over what came with the car. Bass is much more powerful and imaging is far better. The sub went under the driver seat and the amplifier went under the passenger seat. With the top down, it sounds especially good. There is one minor problem though and I would appreciate any help on this; even when the amp is at it's lowest level (still sounds great) there is an electrical buzz that is there when the car is running regardless if I have the radio on or not. The installer told me that because the factory wiring is mated to the other wiring there really is no way around the noise and a noise filter will not correct the problem. I prefer to leave the installations to the pros but is there anything that I can request that they do (short of replcing all the factory wiring) to correct this? Thanks for anyone's help.

is that clarion 6 inch the same as the 'little' 6.5 100 watt self powered thing? or something completely different? If it's the same, did the installer dissasemble the clarion to get it to fit or did it fit under the drivers seat as-is?

I'm not sure but here's the model number: PSW160M-RET. He did not disassemble it. Rather than have him drill my virginal S2000, I told him to use velcro and it sits in place under the seat. Seat travel may be a little limited now but since I'm the ONLY driver, it's a non issue.

Hrmm...okay, that might make sense...The passenger side (the only side I tried) had a bunch of raised areas in the floor (car parts an stuff), it's very possible that the drivers side does not have this...I'll investagate tommorrow...

i had the same problem with my amp and speaker install. got a hum over the speakers even if the volume was turned down. this problem was solved by installing a low line level converter. the way it was explained to me was your factory head unit has no rca outputs(low level outputs).using this converter enables you to use these outputs on your amp, changing it from high level to low level. it was a bit over my head but it took care of my problem. cost around thirty bucks.

jallen,

To properly answer your question, we need to know a bit more about your setup...did you use line-level converters into RCA, speaker cable into speaker-level inputs on amp, how much wiring was stock and from where to where, etc.

I have 3 questions......

I understand the the Clarion subwoofer only fits under the drivers sit, how much trouble is it to remove the sit?

Is it a lot of work to get to the factory head unit?

Was the low level hmmm your talking about created by the subwoofer amp or the external amp?

I assume the subwoofer comes with installation instruction, otherwise I'm going have some more questions. Thanks for the help!!

I did not do the install but I can tell you that it is a simple procedure to remove the seats; I believe that they are held down by 4 bolts. The hum comes from the external amp and is only coming from the right speaker. I really can't give any more info on the install though because I didn't watch him do it. It took about 3 hours to complete and they did a good job with getting the door panels back on with no gaps or rattles; no scratches or damage to be found on the car. Hopefully the low line level converter will cure my hum.

jallen,

If you don't know if you currently have line-level converters already in place, purchasing a (possibly second) set may just cost you more money. You need to find out your current setup...ask the guys...you paid good money, so they should tell you the basics of what they did. I'm sure we can debug your problem, but we need to know what's already in place.
