OK, I've driven the car and I love it. Now I'm seriously thinking about buying one. The trick is that it would be the only car for me and my wife. How workable is this?

I'd really appreciate comments from folks for whom the S2000 is their only vehicle. Neither of us will need the car to drive to work (at least not frequently), but it would have to get us around town in the pot-holed Boston area, make occasional long highway trips (2-3 hours, maybe up to 10 hours), be our grocery getter, etc., in addition to being a fun machine. Would I regret doing this?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I do it. But then again, I only drive one mile down the street to work, through one light and I love driving it everywhere. I'm already accustomed to doing the shopping in this car though, its definately an upgrade in space by 2x's the amount that my Miata had.

It's my only car and I have no complaints at all. Go for it! Don't listen to what those magazines and reviews say, the S2000 is an excellent daily driver.

no its not nuts.. i've been usuing mine as a daily driver.. and its fine that way.. i usually have the top down so the noise doesn't bother me.. only time it gets annoying is during rush hour traffic stopping and going on the highway.. i'm afraid i'm wearing out the clutch... but its well worth that for the fun you get out of the car.

there has been a lot of discussion of this topic (in my recollection it's up there with "is this the last year of production").

you can probably find a lot of people's opinions on this subject through the search tool - but here are a few examples to get you started:

Eric,
S is my only car. I have a short commute most days in the crowded SF streets, and we have plenty of rough pavement. The rough ride on bad pavement is the only drawback- I don't mid shifting in stop and go, and I find plenty of room for groceries and the road trips I've taken (none over a few days) I even can fit my surfboard if I put the top down. It more than works for me-I look forward to driving it.
I park it on the street many days (garaged overnight mostt of the time), and did have my wheels stolen one night.

I drive mine through 70+ miles round-trip on my daily commute. The Houston traffic seems so serene now that I'm in my S2k. It overwhelms the senses with a euphoric feeling that makes traffic not that bad anymore. I'm feeling much better now doctor.

this is my only car and i have put 4500 miles on it since march 2001, i would definatly get it! i dont see any reason not to , especially if dumb articals said so! i love the car! when you are in a city it is kinda a pain but i am used to it now so i dont notice anything, but when you get on open road thats when you have your fun! and i think that in itself is a reason to get the car! plus come on its an S2000!
