Hey All

The search function being down, I thought I'd throw this one out there.

When I just start to inch away from a stop, I get a clicking noise from the left rear of the car. It sounds like it is maybe coming from the wheel or suspension. This morning I noticed that it also happens when downshifting just before I stop.

The sound is tough to describe...almost sound like when you have a rock in your tire. I checked for spring spacers...none.

Just wondering if anyone else has/had a similar issue.

since it is only at low speeds, i wonder if you have something inside the tire? not likely, but the symptoms point there...
trip to the dealer is in your future, i.m.o.

 

I had that noise, didn't do anything about it, and after a while it went away.

 

Mine just started doing that. Approx 32k on car. Tires are about shot, no obvious cause on visual inspection.

Sounds to me like you might have the beginning of a wheel hub/bearing problem. You can try to tighten the spindle nut... if that makes it go away then that's probably what it is. If you were to pull out your wheel hub... it might look like this (yours wont have such long wheel studs ):



note the wear/pitting on the inboard half of the snout thingy... this is not normal. This will cause play in the assembly and will cause a clicking like you described.

Possible reasons for clicking:
1) Stone or nail in tire
2) CV joint
3) Bearing (as j2k illustrates)

You can eliminate the tire issue by careful inspection and swapping wheels with someone

The CV joint and bearing issue are only noticeable upon teardown and inspection. Good luck.

I am pretty sure it is not anything to do with the tire itself....I checked pretty thoroughly.

I am due for an oil change so I will have them look at it.

 

REAR AXLE NOISE
A small number of owners report Rear Axle Nuts problems. Rear axle nuts are not loose, they just need to be retorqued to keep the hub from shifting on the axle splines which make the tick tick noise. I've got this same clicking. I first noticed it going through a drive through window where the sound echoed off the brick wall. I've taken it to the dealer and they told me " It's Normal and their other S2000's do it too". I don't think this is normal and am interested to see what others find out.
BTW my car only has 10k on it.
