Pics of my new WLaurent sub enclosures w/ Kicker Squares
First of all, I wanted to thank WLaurent - he responded to my PM's promptly and did an awesome job building the enclosures. The fit of the enclosures were perfect If anyone's considering these enclosures, you shouldn't hesitate.
When I first received the enclosures, I was very surprised on just how light these enclosures were. I guess I was expecting them to be a lot heavier. I had one 12 inch Kicker square as my last subwoofer. I wanted the trunk space back in my car so I decided to go with these enclosures. I also considered getting the JL stealth box. At first I thought I would regret going from a 12 to 2 8's, but I'm very happy with just how the 8 inch sub's sound. Obviously, the bass isn't as deep as the 12, but it's way more than enough bass for me. Plus, I'm not too picky and I'm not looking to join any competitions. Most importantly, I have my trunk space back
My current stereo set up:
2 Kicker S8 L7 Solobaric Squares(2 ohm; dual voice coil)
1 Kicker 2 channel DX700 digital amp.
Pioneer DEH-P9300 stereo
Polk audio Momo tweeters
Lucid's rear speaker system
Eclipse speakers in the door's
Those L7's look nice. I know how a single sounded in my car - two must be even more amazing
The enclosure volume requirements for the L7 subs is 0.33ft^3 to 0.75ft^3
The enclosures are the ones sold in the S2KI store - I can cut them for the Kicker L5's and L7's. They are constructed of fiberglass and have an MDF face. Enclosure volume is 0.38ft^3
Also note that these ones are mounted without the straps. They are bolted to the floor of the trunk prior to installing the speaker (sub) into the enclosure.
Given the weight of the L7 subs - bolting in place is probably a more secure method. Of course it does not allow you to remove them quickly to get some added trunk space for Christmas shopping
You can glue a velcro strap to the bottom or back of the enclosure. Holds just as secure as a bolt yet still very easy to remove by just pulling a little hard on it to get it out.
I'm not too clued up on acoustics but when I went to get some speakers installed in another car the stereo guy told me that by facing two bass speakers i.e subs or 7x10s, towards one another would cancel each other out a bit. It seemed to make sense to me but like I said I have very little experience with car stereos.
I am having the same problem that u faced before HondaS2K8888........ No Space in the trunk..........
These are my Current woofers............. I hate them now....! I have no idea why I did that......
How can I buy similiar to your speakers........ is there any website.... I am asking because I live in Dubai, Emirates.... thanks
The only way your speakers would perfectly cancel each other out is if they are playing a frequency in which the wavelength is such that the distance between the subs effectively places the trough of one speaker's frequency in the same spot where the peak of the other speaker's frequency is. This would only happen for a certain wavelength - if your speakers are not playing in that wavelength, it shouldn't happen. It also requires that the environment of the speakers be PERFECTLY uniform along every axis, as any nonuniformity will cause the sound to reflect differently and thus it will not be cancelled out.
Frequencies and wavelengths CAN combine in such a way as to lower the volume, but actually cancelling out something is relatively rare in a car.
In short, don't worry about it - while you might lose a bit of sound now and again, it shouldn't be noticeable (ie, you might suffer from destructive superposition in your sound, but not significantly). It's best not to have them facing each other perfectly, but chances are that even if they do, it's no big deal.
