Default Bay Area Restaurants

Ok, so next saturday is the fall formal that my house is sponsoring and I need to find a good restaurant in the Berkeley/El Ceritto/Oakland/possibly SF area to take her prior to the event. I'm going for a good impression here, so I want somewhere nice, but not so fancy that neither of us can figure out which fork is used for what. Thanks!

Try Harris' Steak House on Van Ness. High end but it's just a steak house so you should not have any cutlery issues. Best steak this side of the Mississhippi.

If you want Sushi and don't want to go too far, go to Kirala, it's on Shattuck. It's the best Sushi in the Easy Bay, but prepare for long ass lines (I'm not sure if they take reservations, might wanna call).

For steak, I recommend Harris' in San Francisco ... voted best steak in San Francisco by many sources.

Also, a classy fusion food place in Oakland (yes ... it's VERY NICE and it's IN Oakland) is Le Cheval. It's basically vietnamese/french food and pretty damn good.

If you want some particular food in general, let me know and I'll see if I can come up with a recommendation ...

I eat around here ... a lot and I'm always trying to impress the ladies when I take them out for dinner.

Take her to Top Dog. Get the Kielbasa or the Hot Link.

I personally prefer the Italian personally... infact I had two this afternoon...

well, for further rulling it down... I'd like something maybe within 20 minutes of berkeley... not too expensive... I'm a college student for heavens sake but by no means cheap... also trying to stay away from fish(she's not big on the sea critters)... thanks for all the responses to far...

as far a sushi... does anyone know where I can get some good Makizushi(the nice complex rolls with all sorts of good stuff... i.e. grab and shrip on the inside and avocado, eel, and salmon on the outside) thanks... I've been dying to find some and I can't!

Kirala on Shattuck ... high end sushi ... that's where you can get just about any sushi without going to SF.

Well if you want italian and don't want to go too far ...

Oliveto Cafe and Restaurant
5655 College Ave, Oakland CA (510) 547-5356

or

Rivoli
1539 Solano Ave, Berkeley CA (510) 526-2542

Neither of them are really CHEAP. Fair pricing for the good italian food you get. Check it out.

You can try Chez Panisse Cafe in Berkeley. It is less expensive than the restaurant.

You can also try Ebisu Restaurant in San Francisco. There are
also some interesting restaurants in San Francisco Mission area.

BIG PLUG HERE!!!

For makimono, come by my restaurant! We have over 20 different "special rolls" that you will only find at our restaurant - from such exciting varieties as "Crunch & Munch" to "SF Fire roll".

My favorite, "Pink Lady Roll" with soft shell crab inside, covered with tuna and hirame.

Address:
Osaka Sushi
460 Castro Street
San Francisco, CA
415-255-8828

Ha ha...
