What causes my 4th gear .....
to pop out in low rpm while cruising ? despite the temperature, it only happens at low rpm ....... mostly uphills, and or when the tach comes to a steady stop ....... (when you shift into 4th, hold the accelerator, and let the rpm climb to around 4G ..... let it sit, and then it comes into neutral)
It had done it occasionally, but the issue for me is the dealership can never duplicate the problems ...... what do I have to do to convince them that there is a problem ? I had tried the regional office ....... didnt get much help there. Before I head down to Rothensal Honda (recommeded by many s2k owners in the area), I am curious to know, what might be the problem, and could it be a major one ? or something as simple as an adjustment ?

PS: anyone else had this happened and whats your current status ?

mstw, I can't address the technical aspect of your problem, but do a search of this topic, a few other owners have had this problem. And specifically 4th gear only. I don't recall reading anyone actually getting it fixed. As for my S, it has never popped out of any gears.
Thanks mister_two. I posted this thread in "under the hood" forum, hoping the more technical fellas can give me a suggestion or more. One of the suggestion was a possible shift linkage misalignment ...... is it something that can be adjusted like wheel alignments ?
I did found a thread about 4th gear .... but no one got it fixed .... so i dont know what the cause is .... and here i am, trying to dig it out.
Please help !!!!

I have the same problem on my 2001 stook. It does only seem to do it at low RPM. It doesn't happen a lot, but it happens at least 2 or 3 times a week. I'm usually about to shift anyway, so it's no biggie.
Jaded41, what did your dealer say about it ? have you asked them to do anything with it ? mine hasnt done it during acceleration, and my dealer (where i bought the car) isnt helping ...... i am waiting for my first oil change and ask this dealership in VA to check it out ....
someone got their tranny replaced with this problem, do u know if it a must ?

My stook slips out of 4th sometimes...it seems to happen when the car is hot at any RPM, cruising in 4th when I hit a bump. I am reluctant to take it to the dealer as when I had the 1-2 grind and clutch buzz fixed they kept her for 5 days and dropped the tranny and ripped it apart.
I'll live with it until they issue a TSB, which, I think, ought to be forthcoming.

Mine does it when the transmission is very hot.. before and after the TSB work. It has not affected me a great deal so I have not decided when to go in and talk about this (and the continued 1-2 problem).
There is no external or adjustable linkage on this transmission, but since it commonly happens over bumps it may well be just movement in the drive train / body allows the shifter to be nudged by the console and when hot it just slips into neutral.
I know it will not happen if you leave your hand on the shifter (not possible when driving at the track). I don

clearance or tranny mount problem? Would it not also happen in 2nd or 6th gears? Since I sometimes shift to neutral (after matching revs) without the clutch, I've noticed a resistance in 2nd or 6th but an ease with 4th that is, well...too much ease...as it slips out when not touching the shifter sometimes. Its almost as if there is a spring-type tension that is week in 4th. I'm not sure how else to describe it.
I didn't know this problem is also happening to the 2000 models, so far I have only heard from the 2001 owners.
The Mugen King Motorsport S2000 finished 2nd in the recent race (some big race I think) it's 4th gear went out in the first half of the race. Do you guys think it could indicate a design flaw on 4th gear as well ? If it can't be adjusted or fixed without any major surgery, I think I am not going to let the dealership to use my car as proving ground until Honda finds a solution. I had been bugging the hell out of them. You should do the same.

I was just talking to Mingster about this. I know his popped out of 4th gear.
I had mine pop out of 1st gear, but my hand was on it and I had just let off the gas. I figured that I was at the perfect rev for the gear to just slip out.
