Default Insurance for modified cars???

I was notified by Geico that my stereo and performance products could not be covered on my policy, and that my policy would not be continued since I had these items on the car (nice, huh?). I've called the following companies:

Geico
AllState
Progressive
Liberty Mutual
Nationwide

NONE of them will insure modified cars. Technically, Geico will, but the car has to be worth over $75K or be a classic car. I have a friend who is trying to get a hold of his agent at State Farm, my last hope. Does anyong have their performance parts covered!!!?!?!?!

I've got Allstate, and was told by this lady that as long as the stereo stuff IE: subwoofer and amp was bolted down then it is cover if involved in an accident causing it to be damaged. Give Allstate a call and ask them about their audio policy.

Geico said the same thing, until they found out I meant $3,000 worth of stereo equipment.

Damn, Holy Shit that's a lot, that's like 1/3 of my civic. I hope you find some way of getting all the stuff covered fully.

Just found out that I need "non-standard" insurance. "Standard" insurance is all that the big guys deal in. I used this site to get a list of companies http://www.insurancemarketplace.com/main.htm that deal in non-standard insurance. I'm in the process of getting a quote.

i was wondering about this, 'cause you only have a Honda alarm, which isn't very "strong".

did you mention that you had an alarm, 'cause they don't know how sensitive it is, and they might think that it's pretty good. just see if that makes a difference (if you haven't already).

Got some quotes. Not pretty. About 2.5 times what I pay now.

I turn 25 in 2 months. Asking for a quote for when I'm 25, hoping that it's low enough to make this almost sound like a "good deal".

I just figured the $10,000 stereo and $17,000 in modifications in my car were just plain gone if anything ever happened to my car... I never tried to get them covered... I'm sure the premiums are not nearly affordable (considering my wife and I are paying $4000/year in NJ for a CR-V, S2000, and Focus ZX3... $1300/year for all three in NY)

Another thing to look into is what I did to cover my CRX-Si.

The silly CRX-Si is 12 years old, looks brand new and has about $5,000 to $6,000 in add-ons. If I were to get in an accident or some a**wipe were to steal it, I would get basically nothing because insurance would be based on NADA. An appraiser appraised my car - referral came from an antique car buff because this is what they all do - and my insurance covers my specific car. Yes the price is a bit more, it is not less, but my car and all the extras are covered for what the total package is worth. That is thing one.

Now for crazy thing two, the thing that causes my insurance to go lower. I bought a pickup truck. My car and the truck are on the same policy. The truck is rated for 90% usage, the car is rated for 10% usage. When I added the truck to my policy my premiums went down!!!

When my S2000 comes in the spring I believe it will be 5% CRX-SI and 5% S2000 and 90% Nissan truck. Dogs are not the only ones who love trucks!
