Noticed that the back of the intake was burning HOT after driving for a while, so I took it to a local Honda Guru to fabricate a Carbon Fiber heat shield. Temps decreased from 156 F to about 106 F. Did the testing yesterday, and were better than when we first tested! I can definitely feel a difference, and the car feels alot more responsive. Me living in FL, I need all the cooler temps I can get....
Thanks to John @ LHT Performance for the work
Here are the pics:
Made a nice cut so it wouldn't interfere with Pulleys/Belts
The heat reflector is the same coating Firemen wear:
Who would've thought anyone would attempt to improve upon Mugen's awesome intake?
Can you ask your shop to make more of the same? I know Gregg would be interested in this as well as those few who are fortunate to own Mugen Intake.
I will definitely ask him. I don't know if you can tell, but in picture 2, my mechanic hid some of the ugly wires from the soleniod next to the header. In order to put the piece there, you need to move it. I love the look, I knew it would improve a little, but not that much! I love it....
CF is an excellent insulator. You really need to measure the temp inside the airbox.
Too much heat shielding is never bad, I guess. Although, did you measure the temp of the plastic portion of the intake (nearer the throttle body? I'm sure that plastic gets hot and it isn't shielded.
