If we had only put StonGard on the edges of Tim's fender....



He has some marks on the front as well but those were also protected and he really only has the scrape on the side where the StonGard ended. I was really surprised by how much damage was prevented even though this stuff isn't designed to prevent this type of road rash.

 

What about the rest of the damage? Will that also peel off?

 

I'm pretty sure that the damage on the front will peel off as well since its not near as scraped as the part we uncovered first. We didn't take it off yet so the car would be protected until he gets it painted, then we will put the StonGard back on.

 

Too bad the other car has to replace his bumper due to huge dent on side. Can't believe my car didn't get dented.

Yeah, those 3M film stuff is pretty strong! We used to apply that stuff on the LCD display for the military vehicles and test for the "boot" kick test on the screen at work!

So, I'm still thinking applying stoneguard to my car soon as I pick up this winter!
David (speed2000), Is there still problem with the headlight cracking when (headlight piece) stoneguard is applied?

 

As far as the StonGard light damaging the headlights, the problem is known as 'crazing' and lots of headlights have this occur without the product. Next time your in a parking lot, take a look at a Dodge Minivan or Intrepid thats a few years old. You will see some of them with where the headlights have turned milky and you can't even see the bulbs anymore, its the same thing because that's what the S2000 headlights would have eventually looked like. I think its just that we are much more inclined to keep our cars shiney and notice this once it starts to occur unlike the minivan owners that never even wax the vehicle. They just never noticed the lines forming inside the lens and failed to get them replaced under warranty. This doesn't happen to all of the lights, but it occurs and nobody seems to have the answer as to why.

The light kit has been on my S for over a year and no problem, but others have had this occur after a few months. My guess is that it will eventually happen to somebody's S without the StonGard light and that will settle a lot of questions. As for now, Honda has replaced all the lights with this problem and have also replaced lights that have blistered inside as well.
