Default Water Leaks?

I've noticed that my car felt a bit damp and smelt musty. I thought that it was only because I haven't used it much recently. About two weeks ago, I bought something that didn't fit in the boot, so had to take the tool tray out. Imagine my surprise when I found water in the bottom. I assumed it was either rain that had got in with the boot open, or something in the boot that leaked, so I mopped it out. Two weeks on and it's filled up again.

I park my car on a sloping driveway, so it is facing slightly uphill. I don't see how it could leak around the boot seals. Has anyone else experienced water entry? It's booked in for surgery on Thursday, but I just wondered where the problem could be.

Was the car from new? - no accidents.

Unfortunately water in the boot is normally a symptom of a previous rear end shunt. I have had 3 cars - all which had some form of rear shunt - and all had water in the boot even after "expert" body shop repairs.

I have had this happen once, and whilst I cant come close to matching Kobe's hat-trick (amazing!!!), we had a car that got clouted up the rear, after repaires the boot filled with water. Poorly fitting rubber seals the case.

Where are you taking the car Rob?

Hope it is sorted with the minimum of fuss.

Yes ownded it from new in Jan 2000 . It's had no rear shut as far as I know , it's about the only place I haven't collected car park bumps (dented n/s door, ding on o/s door and most recently a scrape/dent on n/s front wheel arch & bumper).

The front edge of the boot lid is slightly proud, but I wouldn't have thought that it is enough to cause a leak. Maybe the waters getting in whilst I'm driving. I don't keep anything in the boot, except for the chinese containment device (washing up bowl), but that seems to stay dry

It's going into Southern Counties tomorrow, complete with water. They've asked for two days, so I will be clobbered again for insuring the courtesy car

Try Geo Collins Nr. Hailsham - free courtesy car (I have had their Civic 1.6SE Executive for 8 days now )

Your car can't be too bad if it doesn't leak My car is my daily driver, about 29,000 miles now. Since I've been involuntarily resting, I only use it a couple of days a week. I guess that maybe leaving it standing is not the cause of my problem
