a question to those who live in cold climate
how do you wash your car when it gets really cold out like here in ny???? and how exactly in detail do you guys put on your wax?????? thanks alot.
I wash mine in a heated garage with the garden hose going down into the basement to facets. I wash with warm water, soap in a bucket, wash mit. I wax just before winter hit and will again when spring comes. I don't wax any more than that - no need to and my car gets dirtier than anybody else's here.
how do you guys put them to sleep??? i cant help but drive her around anyway. not in the snow or rain but if its a nice day or i gotta do something (actually find something to do) i take her out. granted i did just get her and shes my first car.
I wait for the temperatures to get above freezing then I wash it. I make certain that I towel off the car. It's rough on my fingers (can you say, "Frost bite?") but it stops the doors from sticking and that paint from water spotting. I don't wax during the winter months, unless the temperatures get up above 50 F and they don't do that around here until March.

A good coat of wax before winter, then:
I wash mine with water and a fine terry mit. Then drive around the block to the car wash and from a distance, rinse it quickly then just spray wax it for two $. Shammy the car to keep it from water spotting. I use gloves from scuba gear to keep the frost bite away. The spray wax does not do much but keeps the car good through the winter.

My work car is a 2000 Civic SI I put snow tires on all four corners . I drive about 35,000 miles per year . When I drive it it gets wound up to 8,000 rpm snow spitting out from the front tire ( Wish Honda had put in LSD ) could have snow spitting out of both front tires . It keeps me occupied until April . No salt on my Silver.

When it's cool out, I take her to the car wash. You drop a $1.50 in quarters into the slot and usa a hand held high pressure spray gun. A quick 5 block trip back to my heated garage. Then dry her off with a Miracle Towel (synthetic chamois). When it gets real cold out, she stays in the garage covered up, S02s are still on all four.
This Sunday the weather forecast is for partly sunny and temperatures in the low 50s. It's time to go for a drive!
