Try this link, for some reason the first one was problematic. The article is amazing regarding how much oil racecars just plain consume.

By that column one would expect harder driving to equate with more oil consumption...can anyone confirm this?

Very interesting article. I knew racing engines consumed oil, but I didn't know how much.

As for the high rpm, high load being related to oil consumption, I conducted an informal experiment on my S2K. My engine normally consumes 0.5-1 liter per 3000 miles of driving. However, at one point I decided to drive at least 500 miles without entering VTEC. Oil consumption was imperceptible at that point. Anecdotal, but it happened.

Thanks UL,

I had noticed some increases in oil consumption at various times with my current vehicle, and I may have an explaination now....damn I drive the Stanza hard...lol.

Anyone else?

Yes, very interesting. I notice the gallons the author refers to are imperial gallons and not U.S.

Who is Steve Matchett - a Brit or a yank?

I was very happy when I read the article.
My '90 CRX-Si ( lots of mods ) will easily consume 1/2 quart of oil on a track weekend at The Glen, about 340 miles of on track work, I shift at 7,000 RPM. However during normal street driving I never have to add oil between oil changes. Car is on Pennzoil Synthetic 10W-30.
Now thinking about the S2000 to come, ( down payment in yesterday ) I can appreciate why HONDA wants us to check the oil at every fill-up.
