Default Possible Clutch disc problem

I think My clutch disc is asking to retire .

On starting up and driving sensibly the car sounds fine, but if you start to put your foot down and really warm the engine/gearbox etc, there is a loud vibration noise on decelerating around the 3,000 rpm mark. You don't hear it as much in neutral but its defiantly there. It sounds embarrassing. Especially not having the car to long, I see so many people I now they all think 'oooo shiny new car, but it sounds fcuked!'

I assume its the Clutch disc after running a search, as the noise gets louder the warmer the engine (parts starting to expand under heat), if it was a part in the bay it would happen from cold What's the cost going to be to get this replaced? Its a MY00. Price from a Honda dealer and from your average Jo mechanic would be great.

Thanks!

I don't want to alarm you, but wouldn't you notice problems on accelleration as well if it was the clutch? Is it slipping at all if you put your foot down hard at 30mph in 4th or 5th gear?

No its fine, never slips. Run a search on Vibration and you'll see lots of people with/have had the same problem, I just cant find a price.

this sounds like the 54 clutch disc that needs replacing with the stiffer spring 55 clutch plate to remove the noise. you may be able to get it done under warranty. if not, then you are looking at approx

Should be able to get this sorted under warranty. There is a known problem with the 054 clutch but it's not terminal. If you haven't got a warranty it might be worth getting one and then asking about it. If you have and they won't do it, try a different dealer.

I asked my dealer to sort it out and told them what it was, but they couldn't reproduce the fault and therfore wouldn't do anything about it. A few months later when they were test driving it after some other work, they noticed the noise themselves, booked the warranty work and told me they'd done it when I collected the car

p.s - it hasn't failed or on it's way out. It's just noisey. If all else fails you could always live with it.

If you do this, wait a bit after buying the warranty before taking it in for the clutch work. There's a "cooling off period" in which they won't do the work.

Chris, You've got a JDM haven't you? No warranty then

On the plus side this problem is a vibration and is not a sign that your clutch is shagged, it should give many more miles of faithful service whilst you save up

I have the same problem on my MY00 S - how many people have had the 55 clutch fitted under the extended warranty? Will Honda try and say this is normal as I have done 41k?
