What is your opinion of this JVC KD-NX5000 HU ?
After learning that the Nakamichi CD-300 is made in China and the CD400 made in Malaysia...my search for a head unit took a different direction.
I found this on Crutchfield.
JVC KD-NX5000
It has 40 gig hard rive, plays CD, DVD, MP3, GPS and a 3.5 inch screen.
Price is $999.
What do you all think ?

Its a very cool unit
It does require a little love to fit in properly because od the screen size but it can and does fit and look awesome.

I haven't played with it much but I have one sitting on my bench (a customer's) so I can make a Wired DCI for it. The DCI is done and will be ready on the web site next week.
The screen looks very nice, actually everything looks very nice. This HU has about 1.21 ga-zillion wires so be careful when wiring. I did notice it draws 1.66 amps just sitting there in radio mode with no speakers attached, which is like 2-3 times higher than most HU. After 10-15 mins (on an open bench) it gets hot enough that the internal cooling fan kicks on (you'll never hear it in an S though).
The worst thing I can say about it is that is uses JVC's silly-arsed remote control functions AND that the wired input does not accept ANY of the DVD/NAV commands - only "standard" CD/Radio functions are supported.
