Default Door Speaker Recommendation

I'm looking to replace the 6" door speakers in my '02 with ones that have better sound quality but don't weigh any more than the stock ones. Any recommendations?

Just out of curiosity, why are you concerned about the weight? I can understand not wanting to add weight to your car but I would imagine the weight added by a speaker with a larger magnet would be negligable on performance.

A little weight here and a little weight there and all of a sudden you've got a non-negligible amount of weight. I replaced the door panels with CF to shave lbs off and it wouldn't make sense to add that weight back with a heavier speaker.

And yes, I know, If I'm such a weight-weenie I should drop the stereo altogether.....

I bought some polk DB components for my civic and they sound alright.

They should sound a lot better than stock and weigh about the same. The bass is ok, the midrange is ok and the treble is ok. The sound is basically ok, where as the stock speakers are complete crap. So ok is better than complete crap. If you want better sound quality, you will need better speakers with bigger magnets and you will need very heavy amplifiers to power them. I don't know you can get 6.5s in the doors of the s200 without cutting the doors.

I'll check out the Polks....I thought the stock speakers were 6", but I guess they're smaller, eh?

Can't run any add'l amps....my tiny lightweight ATV battery won't permit it. (Maintaining an equivalent power to weight ratio of a 911 Turbo isn't easy!)

Dude....honestly, not to sound like a dick, but this has got to be the most retarded thing Ive ever heard. The weight difference between the lightest speaker and the heaviest speaker is about 2 pounds. A human carries about 5-6 pound of piss and about 7 pounds of "sh*t" at any given time. How much do you weigh??? If you really care about the 5 pounds speakers would add, LOSE SOME WEIGHT. If you really want a track car, not only should you not ask how to change speakers, but you should ask how to take off every electronic component in the car short of the ECU and the ignition wires. Dont worry about weight so much. 100lbs equates to .1 of second of the 1/4 mile. Do you really race that often to care about .1 sec difference...dont take this as a flame, but cmon, step into reality. Get some nice speakers and enjoy the car, worrying about 1lb here and there is just silly.

also not intending to be a jerk, but either eat light before driving or just up your fiber and poop before getting into the car, then you can enjoy better sound. i seriously doubt that the additional 3-5 pounds will truly equate to any measurable performance or handling losses.

now, amps and a subwoofer? that might be a different story...

If the engineers who designed and built the S2000 had the attitude of "2 lbs" here or there being insignificant, the S2000 could easily be 3100 lbs. Maybe it'd have comfier seats or a nicer radio or ride quieter, but that's not a trade off most of us would appreciate.
I don't take any of your comments personally, though. Some people are incessantly preoccupied with keeping their car meticulously clean or are obsessed with the db range of their speakers or estimated 1/4 mile times (I'm not). But for those who are--GOOD! Everyone needs something to focus their attention on. I'm an admitted weight weenie. Whether it comes to a car, a mountain bike or my own body even (I've dropped from 195 to 167, btw). Unfortunately the issue with weight is that you can't just unbolt 100lbs off all at once (maybe you guys can tell me how so I don't have to worry about magnet weights anymore?). It's a meticulous and time consuming process that requires attention paid to even things that seem insignificant and retarded. Hell, it's easy to say, "ahh--it's just a couple of beers" or "so what, it's just a jelly donut" but what happens after you say that 50 times? Conversely, if you eat a bit less crap each day after several months or even years there's a six pack of muscle where a beer gut used to be.
