Default HARDWIRING RADAR DETECTOR

I need to use my power socket for a handsfree system i have (cheapo MrHandsfree or somert) but still need to use me radar/laser detector. Has anyone picked up a 12v positive anywhere under the dash? I don't wanna frazzle any lectrics, do I have to go straight to the fusebox and does this have connections I can use easily?

thanks in advance

alternatively, you can buy a 'multiple' socket thing which plugs into the DC socket.

But hardwiring would be the neater option.

Fuse box is under your right knee. There are 3 free connectors and they are easy to get to.

IIRC there is a photo of the fuse box in the FAQ with a note on each of the connectors i.e. permanent live, ignition ....

See that box under your knee, can you connect more than one thing to it? (like feed multiple wires out of one connector? or feed one wire off another?

There a couple of useful links and pics in the tech FAQ IIRC.
The supply is easy, it's the earthing connection that is tricky.

The different terminals are always on, ignition only etc or something - sayd in the tech faq. Don't see why you can't splice a wire into another, but I would only do that for low current stuff.

I don't know what current an Origin draws, but I doubt it's very much. Ipaq won't be more than a few amps I don't think. You have to ensure that the cable you use is up to the job of sealing with the current, but 16 amp auto cable isn't that think, so you should have no problem using that that. You need tpo ensure the connection is good though - I always solder wire connections rather than just twist them together or use plugs or scotchloks.

cheers for the help fellas.. now all i need is a few minutes, a wee plug (with a cover probably), a torch and a map of under my knee!

I should be able to earth to somert.. have NO idea how much current the little bugger draws, its got no info on it and feck knows where the box is. I reckon I'll stick an inline fuse in there anyways and see how I go, the wire to it is thin stuff and it doesn't get warm... technically that must be 'pretty low current'...

You'll need a 1 amp inline fuse in the feed to the Originb2 and you will find an earthing point beyond on the car body. Just follow the other black leads.
