Default Valve Adjustment Tech Day - 13 Aug (Sat)

I have been asked to sponsor another valve adjustment tech day for some local members. So, if you're interested in adjusting your valves, set aside the morning of Saturday 13 August for some mechanical work.

Here's the deal:
Be sure to arrive early enough to let your car cool down and allow enough time to finish by noon when we all enjoy some food. I have already committed to adjusting valves on two cars (Doorman and Penrod). Since each car takes about 2 hours to do, we'll need another tech or two that can do the work to fit in more cars.

So, please respond to this thread and let me know if 1) you want to have work done on your car, and 2) if you can do the work. I'm hoping that someone that has done this before can come on over to help out. Once we establish who's showing up, I'll send directions out via PM to those that don't know where I live.

Also, there are two covered parking spots in my driveway, so come over early for the premier spots. I hope to start the work no later than 08:00, so the first cars need to be here by 07:30 to allow enough time for them to cool down.

If your car has more than 25k miles on it, I recommend replacing the valve cover gasket, so be sure to order it in advance and have it ready for the tech day.

Here are a couple of photos form the last time we did this:

Wow, that's sooner than expected. Thanks. Getting new gasket. I'll be there bright and early.

There are 16 valves in the F20C/F22C engines, 8 intake and 8 exhaust. The valves control the intake of the fuel-air mixture and the exhaust of burned gasses. When they are adjusted correctly, the car runs smoother and there is a very subtle power improvement.

Honda specifies that the valves don't need to be adjusted until 105k miles, but many owners have done so earlier. In my MY 2000 car two intake valves were slightly out of specification when I checked them at 25k miles. Other owners have reported similar results. Also, for optimal power benefits, it is best to adjust the valves to the lower end of the specification range rather than somewhere within the range - not something some technicians are willing to do. Since it is a labor-intensive procedure, it costs about $300 to have this service performed at the dealership. Coming to these tech days is a good way to save some money and enjoy helping each other out.

Of course I'm in.
(buying gasket, filter, and a tent to camp out for those premier parking spots).
