Hello everybody,

I can't seem to find any posts regarding the F22C and after-market ECUs. What is compatible? Which give best results? Any info or link will really help me out.

The F22C is only sold in the US so you're not likely to see an Amuse, Spoon, or Mugen ECU for it. But the AEM EMS should be perfect. Whereas it is plug and play for the S2000's harness and sensors and has base maps for the F20C it is still a fully configurable ECU. I'm sure someone here has tuned on one on a F22C by now.

 

Thank's for the info Aus, that's what it thought... Sad, I liked the idea of a Spoon ECU ... Any one else have any recommendations?

 

I think the only JDM company that made a chip for F22C was J's Racing..... but for the price... AEM EMS is a smarter choice, IMO.

 

Talk with Ultimate Lurker. He's in your general area I think, and says they've tuned an F22C1 with simple bolt ons and an AEM EMS to procude significant gains.

 

I didn't think ANY S2000 OEM ECU had a swappable chip.
Before a few people start jumping up and down in their seats and running out to buy one of these "chips", can someone confirm this?

Looks like they make one for the F20C and F22C. No idea if that picture helps to show if its a drop in replacement chip or a piggyback though.

 

That looks like a stand-alone replacement ECU for the OEM one. Even if it were a "piggy-back" (which I doubt it is), it is still NOT a "chip". As far as I understand the "chip" inside the OEM ECU cannot be changed out nor can it be "flashed".

I've held an automotice ECU "chip" in my hand and they look like this:

On Dodges, and GM products, the "chip" can be changed to one that gives more HP and better performance. There is no such mod possible for an S2000.
I think some folks are not quite comprehending what a "chip" really is.

 

Ah I see what you mean, its hard to really say whats meant by "chip". The picture you showed is an EEPROM chip which some manufacturers use. From what I understand the original 02-04 RSX's use EEPROM chips which is why Hondata can reflash the chips so easily.

Other ECUs use flash based memory and I'm sure there are other designs out there as well ...

And of course depending on the manufacturer, some may leave their chips in a socket that is easily replacable while some may choose to solder the chip directly onto the board making it impossible to do a swap like you're saying.

All in all though, I think its a bit of a technicality when we're talking about aftermarket ECUs. Full replacement ECUs can be found in chip/reflash form like Hondata's K-Pro and they can be full replacement ECU units like AEM's EMS. They do basically the same thing ... its just the method that they're installed.
