I have heard of people modding their stock aiboxes but I never seen any pics. I was wondering if I cut out all the plastic that is pointed to by the arrows in the pics, what would happen. Is there any reason not to do it? The only reason I can think of is that they are there to keep noise down. I would like a deeper sound, so by my reasoning if I cut those pieces out I will have the sound. Am I right. Thanks for any help in advance.

 

I just did the larger partition and removed the plastic elbow thingy in the lid. The sound is a bit deeper, but then I have a K&N filter also.

 

we did this on my bubbys s2k. We knocked the "wall" off and took off that "elbow" piece that johnyboy32 described and it sounded deeper and felt more responsive.......then after a test drive we dropped in the KN filter and it felt the same to me.....but who knows......but the sound is alot nicer and growlier.

 

I just put my K&N in also and was thinking of doing that "mod" also. I also have the MUZ snorkle, wonder if it will be a little louder since I have that?!?

AJ PwR did the samething when I just got my car. It actually increases the volume inside the air box and the response it actually better.

 

any dyno numbers with this?

 

You cannot really dyno engine response. I think you maybe benefit with about 1-2hp by doing this. ON/OFF throttle respsonse will be better as well.

 

After reading this thread and all of the S2K UK "chaps" comments on the related thread, I got out the Dremmel this morning and went to work. I cut out the barrier to 1", eliminated the L shape, and blocked the resonator hole with a cut out from the barrier and fastened it securely with Duck Tape.

Bottom line: very easy and a worth-while mod. A bit more growl from the intake on hard acceleration, but the greatest improvement is felt in the increased throttle response. Also, I noticed that VTEC is more smooth during the transition of the cams. Before I realized it, I was hitting 120mph (safely of course).

I did something that I think no one else has done yet with the OEM airbox. I actually cut out (enlarged) the hole leading to the resonator section. So while others block the hole leading to the resonator, I cut out the wall separting the two sides. This effectively increses the overall volume of the airbox by around 1/3rd. Not sure it does anything though (it is a little louder).

Note: this is not cutting out the little plastic divider by the air filter tip, rather it is opening up the resonator section so that it is part of the rest of the airbox.
