Default AEM EMS, What does it NOT do

Looking through the spec's, there is nothing that spells out what it can't control that our ECU do. Marketing guy never tell you what something can't do. In other words what do we lose?
  1. It will not tune it'self
  2. ODBII Output (1)
  3. Dash Gauge (Water Temp) does not function (2)
  4. No Standard DTC to light the CEL indicator.(3)
  5. No Immobilizer Security
  6. Emissions Stuff (EVAP)
  7. ???
  1. You will not pass emissions if they need to connect to the ODBII port. This is true for a number of states. You can swap back the Stock ECU to pass.
  2. Modifry sells a fix to display the water temp when EMS is installed.
  3. You can program EMS to light the CEL indicator for a number of conditions, but it will not generate DTC and CEL with you programing it.

It will not drive the gauge, but it does use the sensor, correct? And Modifry has a fix for it too, right?

Thanks, that is not true. There are things it does not do. See the list above. What I want to know (and the point of this thread) is to identify what it DOES NOT do.

Thanks for your input

Well seeing how you can't do anything with the stock ECU without some kind of Piggy back device that changes or monitors things, I would say the EMS does everything the stock ECU does. It runs the car, all the functions are there, every gauge except the temp works.

Maybe the question is what are you trying to do that you think the EMS can't?

The tunning itself is actually a very good point as the stock ECU will adjust timing and fuel for certain conditions like temp and humidity. It has been said that the EMS does not adjust to the setting with is not completly true. There is a barometer in the EMS that also effects the way it runs the car.

If you are thinking about getting the EMS then you should. I took a 12 hour trip with the laptop open the whole time. It was great, I could change anything I wanted, monitor anything and fix whatever if something went wrong. Best tool you can have
