Smile my exauhst BLEW UP!

so there i was.....

i had 2 miles free of no known CHP or any sort police authority/radar detection on the highway and i decide to get on it in 6th gear at around 85 mph. i make it up to 130-140 mph and "some how" VTEC hits AGAIN at 7500 rpm!!! WTF!!! I see some sparks in my rear view, notice a little bit of lost power, and a CEL comes on!!!!

I freak out thinking I blew my motor/diff/tranny/something I don't know about, but I'm still going and my rpm's don't drop drastically, no smoke, and my engine temp doesn't go up.

take the next exit and stop at the nearest parking lot. no heavy smoke or anything!!! I'm thinking what's going on here...

I looked under my car and don't notice anything leaking or smoking. Pop the hood and same thing.

I decide to just drive home since it's only 1.5 miles away.

As I'm driving I start to think...

The spark plug non-foulers blew up on me!!!!!

I have a J's 70rr and I did the spark plug non-fouler thing to prevent a CEL. I used Permatex High Temp Thread Sealant cuz the foulers kept getting loose and rattled after so many miles without it.

the exhaust heat expanded the foulers enough to blow up!!!!

I pull into my drive way and look where it would be and all I see it a dangling secondary O2 sensor with a spark plug non-fouler with the threads missing!!!!!!!!

I haven't jacked up the car to see the damage done to the exhaust, it's too early and I'm too tired/buzzed/lazy to do it right now.

I'll take pics as soon as I can today.

Talk about having a blast on 4th of July. My damn $1400 exhaust blows up LOL!!!!

Does any body know a shop in Cali that can weld a pieice of titanium on my exhaust just in case I have a huge chunk missing from it???

I doubt your whole exhaust is toast. Sounds to me that when you drilled out the non-fouler, this was not done correctly. You may have drilled it off center or drilled it out too much and left too thin a wall where the threads are. I suspect if you can extract the broken thread out of the t. pipe and put in another non-fouler, it should be fine.
Now, whether or not the sensor survived being blasted out of there, may be another story.

At least your diamond plate floor board didn't fly off at that speed, then went flipping through the air!! You must've hit the NOS.

i hope the sensor is fine. i don't mind pay for a $100-200 sensor, but i do mind paying $1000 for another exhaust.

if the exhaust is busted up i'll just have it mounted on my wall

when it hit VTEC the second time, lol, it was horrible. a loud pop, i hear metal shards htting the ground, my exhaust note got louder and sounded like a WRX!!!!

i'm about to jack the car up see the damage. i'm hoping all is well.

I really like reading about well engineered aftermarket "performance" parts.

The J's 70rr is "race only" --

Meaning ultra light weight -- smog illegal (in CA at least), and engineered for a couple of hundred miles a month of track time...

That exhaust is probably way over engineered for those conditions, as they know that a lot of people run them on their street cars.

I hope xviper
