***** 02/04/2003 - Effective Immediately: Discount Tire has increased the prices on the OEM tires *****

***** Discount Tire is now stocking OEM TIRES!!!! *****
Trevor has started stocking our beloved S02's at their location. If you need a set quick or just have an emergency, he will gladly assist you for the same set price. Be sure to call and make sure they haven't run out. Also, you might want to thank him for providing this new service, since nobody stocks OEM tires in Houston.

Prices Changed On 2/6/03
Front.: $154 + tax each
Rear..: $162 + tax each

These prices include OEM tires, valve stems, balancing, and mounting. These prices do not include the $4/tire disposal fee.

Please respond here if you're interested and include the number of Front/Rear tires you'd like to buy.

February Order Closes on 02/15/2002
Participants
  1. DVDoughboy(Feb/Mar 2003) - 2 Rears
  2. SpiceWare(Feb 2003) - 2 Rears
  3. Joe_S2k(Feb 2003) - 2 Rears

Order Schedule
For this deal to remain in effect, there will only be 1 order per month to keep the shipping costs down from the Warehouse to our HouStook Discount Tire Store. I will initially set the order date to be the 15th of each month. If all the participants agree to change the date, I'll make a note of the date at the top of the thread. The tires usually arrive 2 days after I call them up with the group order.

Shipping to other Discount Tire Stores
Here's the deal for those of you who want the tires shipped to your nearby Discount Tire.

Payment for the tires must be made with the Texas City Discount Tire store(contact info below) prior to shipping. Their courier service charges a ~$40 shipping fee to deliver the tires from Texas City to Houston. If they ship to 1 store, you will be able to divide the shipping cost amongst yourselves.

Once the tires are delivered to Discount Tire Store of your choice, you can drive up and have them mounted, balanced, with new valve stems.

Flat Repairs
Discount Tire doesn't charge for flat repairs whether you bought the tires from them or not. I've been going to them for years.

Road Hazard
The road hazard protection will be extra and can be purchased at the same time. I believe that they use a pro-rated system using the remaining tread depth to determine the replacement cost.

I may actually need to get in on this. I'll let you know soon - I'm going to go by my Discoun Tire and have them check the life left on my rear tires. They are starting to look, and feel, a little smooth. My only problem is...

DAMN!!!

That's a long way to drive for tires!

I have about 12,500. And, according to the guy at Discount Tire in the Woodlands, my rears are shot. He also wanted to charge me $225.00 EACH tire to replace them.

Texas City is looking a lot better now...

I'm going to get a second opinion to make sure he wasn't trying to rape me.

Anyone know the best way to self test the tires?

The only way I know is to check the tread depth. The other problem with our tires is that they get really hard(less grippy) when they've been heat soaked repeatedly. My tires lose their grip after 3-4k miles due to the 70 mile daily round-trip commutes at high speeds.

Since I go through tires like water, I can usually tell when it's time to replace them by how well they DON'T grip. If you drive the car long enough, you'll get a FEEL for them too.

Did you get your second opinion? We might try and get these tires ordered on Feb 7th so they can be here the following week. Let me know if your interested.
