I just received the letter below from the General Manager of Lime Rock Park.

Based on his response, I recommend we hold our meet on Saturday, May 26, 2001, since all the special club events will be provided on that day.

Please post any comments or suggestions.

Thanks.

"Lime Rock Park and the Speedvision World Challenge GT and Touring Car Championships would like to invite members of the Honda S2000 Club to join us for the Lime Rock Park Grand Prix, Memorial Day weekend, May 25-28, as part of a special promotion called the World Challenge Fan Club.

The Memorial Day weekend tradition continues when road racing's best drivers return to Lime Rock Park. For the seventh consecutive year, Lime Rock plays host to one of the premiere sports car racing events in North America. Once again, the Speedvision World Challenge GT and Touring Car Championships will showcase an international field of top production-based race cars with high energy, action packed races on both Saturday, May 26 and Monday May 28. Last year, both the GT and Touring Car races produced spectacular competition and this year should bring more of the same. In fact, World Challenge delivers an exciting, unique element to the weekend as the only major road racing series in North America to feature standing starts.

The Speedvision World Challenge Championships are excited to have members of the Honda S2000 Club come out to support the racing efforts of all the Honda and Acura teams and to enjoy the action from a whole new perspective. For all the information on the Speedvision World Challenge and a complete list of the teams check out their web site at http://www.speedvisionwc.com

The World Challenge Fan Club package includes the following exciting elements:

> A Weekend SuperTicket which allows admittance to each of the four days of the Grand Prix, including full paddock access.
> Exclusive Car Corral parking on Saturday for each participating marque, set up in such a manner as to become a small "marque specific" exhibition for the public.
> Access to a private hospitality compound on Saturday, offering excellent viewing and closed-circuit television coverage to enjoy all the days activities, including the Speedvision World Challenge Touring Car race.
> A catered lunch on Saturday with drivers and team members as guests of the Speedvision World Challenge Championships.
> An opportunity to participate in an exclusive World Challenge Fan Club Fan Forum question and answer session to learn more about the drivers and their marque-affiliated teams.
> During a break in Saturday's racing action, Fan Club participants will have an opportunity to put in World Challenge touring laps of Lime Rock's historic 1.53 mile circuit in their own car.

The entire package is available at a cost of only $75 per person. That is only $10 more than a regular advance Weekend SuperTicket.

We at Lime Rock Park and everyone involved with Speedvision World Challenge GT and Touring Car Championships appreciate the role that your members play in sports car racing. Clubs such as yours foster growth and interest in the sport and we would like to reward you for your continued support by extending this unique opportunity. We hope that you will actively promote this exciting opportunity to all the members of the Honda S2000 Club.

Please note that CLUB MEMBERS NEED TO RESERVE THEIR PLACE IN THE WORLD CHALLENGE FAN CLUB BY NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, MAY 4, 2001. Fan club packages may be purchased individually by members.

Contact Lime Rock Park directly at 800/RACE-LRP to purchase World Challenge Fan Club tickets and be sure to specify what type of car you drive so that we can plan the Car Coral space accordingly. We look forward to having the sports car enthusiasts from the Honda S2000 Club as our guests."

Sounds like a deal to me. Unfortunately, it seems that the rates have jumped (more than doubled, in fact) for motels in the area, even in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, since I originally reserved my room at the Comfort Inn in Pittsfield, Mass. Because I reserved a month or more back, I have a high quality room reserved for Sat.-Mon. for only $45/night. But they now tell me that if I now want to add Friday night it'll cost me $107!

I'll get out my motel directories this weekend and see whether I can find something else in the area that has a reasonable rate. If I can, I'll move my departure date up by one day, making the drive from Ottawa on Friday rather than Saturday.
