Default Buying an s2k(used or new)

I will be buying an s2k soon and although I can afford a new s2k it'd be much easier to get one thats maybe 1yr old. Only thing I'm worried about is the fact that I won't know how the person before me treated the car and that really bothers me. Especially since I don't really plan on racing it and I plan on taking every care for it I can. I will need to keep it for some-od years until my career is underway. So I guess I would just like to hear some of your thoughts on if I should go new or used... Like maybe I am too worried about what the first owner did with the car.

most of the time if the car is driven by a 50+ year old, the car is in better condition. ask the seller to see if they have all their service records. have the car taken to a honda technician who will do compression check, leak down test and all the other standard tests. i had a choice of buyng new or used, but i never liked buying used cars(but thats just my opinion). there are some used s2k's out there that run like new and have no problems, but the problem is finding the right one for you.

good luck.

Buy new... You just never know. Car Fax isn't 100% accurate.

I wouldnt trust buying an S2000 used...unless they had all the paperwork on what was done to the car....nothing missing....is car is easily abused....

I'd get a used one. I mean, I just unloaded mine for $24K as a trade-in... I would have sold it privately for $25.5K and it was in MINT condition.

If $5K is the price of peace of mind these days (and that means getting a new one for under MSRP), I'd learn to llive with a little less peace of mind.

Besides, as the car is now rapidly approaching a model revision, why waste money on depreciation?

As for whether the car has been abused? Look at it and drive it. Compare it to another S2000 (test drive a new one if you can). If it was well-maintained, most likely it was owned by a good owner. If it looks worn, then find another one.
