I just received my Super Competition air filter from MG Racing.

Here's the label:

Hey, anything from Milan that goes in my car has got to be good!

Here's the filter; the yellow base is metal (aluminum?), the blue is rubbery:

Here are the stock and new filters side by side; as you can see, the Super Competition filter has a 'nipple' like the stock filter:

Here's where it goes:

Here are pictures of each filter in the air box:

I had no problem installing the Super Competition filter. It slipped in as easily as the stock filter, and seems to seal well.

Yes, you should put the cover back on the air box after installation:

I can't say that I can feel any difference in performance, but I am happy with this filter's quality of construction and fit. There are other threads with more details, dyno charts and info on buying from MG Racing.

Hope this was useful,

Ted

Looks like a great fit...

The thing to remember about this is that is never requires oiling and all you need to do it blow compressed air through it to clean from the inside. And you have an air filter for the life of the car...never have to hassle with replacing it or oiling it.

Plus a couple of ponies? Sure, why not...?

Nice post, thanks!

How often does it have to be cleaned (what's the recommendation)? Just curious...

Yeah, the new MG filter fits great as does the JR filter. I've been driving around with the MG prototype filter in my car now for a few weeks and dyno-ed it also. By the seat of the pants I don't notice any difference between it and the K&N RE-0810 that I had in there before.

Power went from 199.7 stock to 201.5 w/ MG filter.

BTW, a 1-2% variation in dyno runs with exactly the same car with equipment not changing is pretty normal. So, while the air filter MAY provide some gains, the actual gain is subject to some variability. In fact, going from car to car and day to day, you can get that extra few hp.

OK, as a service to the lazy, here are some quotes from other threads with more info:

http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...p?threadid=7748

Giampiero:

This filter features a polyester cartridge whose filling
is made up warms calibrated in microns.
This kind of fabric allows air to freely flow while guaranteeing an excellent filtering power thanks to its top-quality electrostatic characteristics.As a matter of fact flow resistance is reduced almost to zero while engine protection is totally guaranteed.
This filter is 100% dry filter,no oil additive is used.
The filter is extremely easy and fast to clean.
You need only to blow high-pressure air into the side opposite to the inlet.
In case of crusts,remove with petrol or detergent.

Warranty;life of the car.
Performance;we extensivly tested,but before make any claims we would like to wait for some indipendent test.The first one being VA S2K.By the way cannot espect miracles from an Air filter alone.

VA S2K:

I did 2 runs with each filter: 2 stock filter, 2 MG Racing filter, and 2 JR filter. The weather was cloudy, upper 40s. I have graphs and charts, but no access to a scanner at the moment, but here are the raw numbers:

Max POWER at the wheels
Stock = 199.7
MG Racing = 201.5
JR = 201.6

Max TORQUE at the wheels
Stock = 132.0
MG Racing = 132.2
JR = 133.3

Both the MG Racing filter and JR filter dyno-ed about the same all the way through the rev band. Both filters had small gains over the stock filter:

2500-3500 rpm + 0-1 HP
3500-5000 rpm + 1-2 HP
5000-5500 rpm + 0 HP
5500-6000 rpm + 2-3 HP
6000-6500 rpm + 0 HP
6500-9000 rpm + 2-3 HP

What concerns me most is keeping my engine clean since hp gains are minimal. According to K&N, filter tests are done with 5-20 micron particles and paper(stock) seems to remove the smallest particles best.
