Default E55 AMG vs. WS-6 vs. Mach 1 (long story)

Oooh la la. It's like a race from heaven.

After a horrible day of driving in the rain from Houston to College Station and back, I wasn't expecting the day to get any better. It did. I can't remember when I've had this much fun in an automobile.

Let me start off by saying this is the first time I've ridden in my dad's new E55. Eep.

So we're driving down FM-2920 back home after my godmother's birthday party, and happen along one of those new Mach 1 Mustangs with the shaker hood. It looked good, save for the decals, and definitely sounded good. Too bad the driver was a dick. We pulled alongside him and gave him a thumbs up, and asked him if he was up for a friendly race; he just looked at us, the car, and then shook his head disgustedly.

I was just like, "Well him - we would've kicked his ass anyway." So to avoid any awkwardness, we just pulled in behind the Mach 1 and followed.

And along came a WS6.

I saw him in the side-view quite a way's back; his stripes are somewhat conspicuous. He falls in behind us and we have about 3 or 4 miles of mildly spirited driving: Us following the Mach 1, and the WS6 at the tail. My attention was glued on the WS6 behind us, I was waiting to see if he was up for a run, or even interested.

After we get through the traffic, I signal the WS6 to pass us and he does, but not in the manner I was hoping for: He just passed. But he was a good sport: He gave me a friendly nod.

And then we catch the light!

Unfortunately, the light turns green before we can come to a complete stop, but the Mach 1 and WS6 were lined up perfectly. So the light turned green, but both cars were just cruising at 30mph for a few seconds. I was thinking to myself, "Badass!"

And then they gun it. Both cars chirped their tires...

As soon as I look over at my dad, he hammers it and I get thrown violently into my seat as the E55's 469hp are put to good use. The tires spin for a good 5 seconds, all the while the car is accelerating quicker than my dad's TT 300ZX. It feels so much quicker.

By the time we catch up (we started off a good 5 car lengths behind), the WS6 has already passed the Mustang and pulled in front, leaving us an open lane. My dad uses it. We fly by the Mach 1 and a few seconds later the WS6, and by the time he kills it, the speedometer read an insane 125mph. Never before had I gone from 30-125mph that quickly.

So he brings the E55 back down to a cool 70mph and waits for the two cars. The WS6 pulls alongside and yells, "What the is that?" I yell back, "Supercharged V8!" He laughs, shakes his head in the good sort of way, and goes his way.

The Mach 1 also passes us, but only gives a cursory glance. I return the shake of the head. Dumbass.

So I must say I've had one helluva day, despite the shitty weather.

Too bad I didn't have a video camera.

P.S. I was shaky all over for a good 30 minutes afterwards.

Man, that car is sooo fast it's not even funny.

But thankfully, it didn't make me nauseous... errr... nauseated - Excuse me.

haha great story. i love the last sentence of that article in Car and Driver about the E55.. "Sadly, that price does not include the cost of paying every other driver on the road to stay the hell out of your way.."
