Default Review of WLAURENT sub box with L7 sub (long, with pic)

I finaly got a sub which I needed very badly to complete my system (for now anyway) I decided to go with the WLAURENT box with a Kicker 8" L7, because of the fact that it takes up very little space, takes a butt load of power and looks very good doing so. WLAURENT was very good to deal with, as always, and went the extra mile to make sure I got my sub in time for the show, which was about a week away at the time I ordered. The box was very well packaged and wrapped in a cling wrap of plastic to protect it from any scratches durring transit.

INSTALATION:
Like I said, I was getting ready for a show, and wanted the box in by that time. I knew it would arrive right before I had planned to leave, so I ran the wire from my amp to behind the carpeting in the area where the box sits the day before. That took me all of about 2 minutes because I already had my amp wired and installed. So, all I had to do was connect the wires, secure the supplied strap and push it into place. All said, the install took LESS than ten minutes and that includes finding my wrenches.

FIT/FINISH:
The carpet matches absolutly perfect and I love the way it tucks nicely into the corner, taking up a minimum of space.

SOUND:
Un-frigging-believeable!!! I am still in absolute awe of how much bass this box/combo puts out. I mostly listen to Rap/R&B, so I enjoy alot of low bass. When I first tested it, I had the top up, and the sound was so powerful, I couldn't believe it. It actualy puts out more clean sounding bass that most 10" subs I have listened to.

It covers the entire range that I wanted, from nice, sharp kicks and great sounding low thumping. It doesn't drag low bass kicks very much, but I didn't expect it to, being an 8". I also didnt expect it to put out nearly as much audible bass, but was pleasantly surprised that it does. I figured it would shake the heck out of the car, but that sound levels would be not as good because of its small size.

I also figured that the bass response would be almost eliminated with the top down, becasue the bass would have nothing to reflect off of. To my great surprise, I discovered today that I did not lose ANY of the lovely bass with my top down. It sounded just as good. I was again put beside myself when I left the music playing and went into the store today (top down). It was just as loud and audible from 20-30 feet away as much larger subs I have owned, and retained its crystal clear bass sound.

I expected to have alot of vibrations from body pannels after hearing many complain of things vibrating everywhere after installing any type of sub. I have yet to find vibration noises on the car (inside or out), execpt a VERY minor one coming from the tray that holds the top when it's down. Not even the trunk latch makes a peep.

To sum it up, if you need a sub and value trunk space, this is a very good deal and should not be discounted because of its small size. Here is a pic of my setup, the amp is temporarily on the floor pending a move to the trunk lid in a few days.

Kicker L7
Elemental Designs A8
JL Audio 8W7
Eclipse 87081.4
Diamond CM3
Image Dynamics ID8
Resonant Engineering RE8

This list is for me to check on in the future...in case I ever decide to switch back to a side-loaded 8"

But feel free to look at these when you're making your decision on what sub to use with the enclosure

I got my box from Will today. Pretty much the absolute heezy. It has an OEM like snug fit, hole pre-cut for my Kicker L7. Damn, i don't know why I didn't order this earlier. I am so happy with this box, props to Will for this offering. His customer service is awesome too....

I've been contemplating wether going with Wlaurent's side mounted setup or JL's stealthbox. Can anyone here tell me from personal experience which box has the best bass output? Which makes tighter, claner bass? Any comments from someone who has had or at least heard them both would be a huge help!

Isn't mounting a nitrous bottle like that a no-no? Just curious...
