Default Rural MD Sunday Drive?

Is anyone interested in a somewhat spirited drive in MD on Sunday?

Through Montgomery, Frederick and Washington Counties and on some obscure roads that most have never seen.

Leaving from Bethesda with a eventual late lunchtime destination in Thurmont MD.

Most of the time there will be a major route nearby, if someone needs to leave early and hit the highway home.

George

Here is an example.

I would like to do it but don't know if I could make the early morning departure time - Got a party in Lutherville Saturday night and will probably spend the night up there. Let me know if you want to back it up to noon/afternoon time and I should be with it.

OK here is the loose plan....assuming there is some interest here.

Meet at the Glen Echo Shopping center (see map) its at the corner of Macarthur Blvd and Goldsboro road at 9:30 to 9:45 and be ready to drive at 10:00

Please have a full tank to start.

Out river road past Potomac into some decent twisties, then wind out way through places like Sandy Hook, through Sharpsburg (lots of Civil war sites), Gathland, Burkittsville, Middletown (gas?) , though the Catoctin mountain park (near Camp David) and into Thurmont for lunch somewhere. Then work back towards Rockville.

Rt 15, 270, 340 40 and I70 will be near enough during the whole route to break off if you have limited time.

I'd like too, but I won't be able to meet up with you until 2pm. Will the drive be over by then?

I was trying to work out an Anne Arundel County drive ending up at Mike's Crab house in the late afternoon. Unfortunately, even the AA back roads have a fair amount of traffic.

It probably wont be over, but pretty far north and west of AA county.

At this point there does not seem to be much interest, so I may just bail on the whole idea and drive myself somewhere.

Eating Crabs does sound good though.

Maybe in the summer months, we can drive out to the Eastern shore for Crabs, there may be some good driving roads out there?

You might want to give nsxs2000 a PM. He'll be in town, not far from your starting point, and is looking for a good drive.

Eastern Shore Crab Run is a good idea

Here are some pics from Todays drive.

Only 2 cars, but a great drive on some of MD's best and hidden roads. About a 200 mile loop

My SPA and mattyates74 Silverstone at Gathland State Park
