Default For those who have a supercharged s and have put some miles on, how is it running??

I saw old threads on this topic, but I figure by now there have to be people out there who have had there supercharger on for 2 or more years.

For those with a supercharger:
what supercharger do you have?
Any drivability problems?
Any issues because of the supercharger?
And lastly would you recommend the mod?

I am looking to do a supercharger and I just wanted to see if there were any problems that other members have run into because of the supercharger.
Thanks

I have the Vortech and the power and drivability is awesome!! Anybody that says differently has never driven an S/C S2000! You will need a VAFC to dyno it in for your conditions. It is a big install, so unless you are a VERY good mechanic, don't attempt yourself. It is worth the price!!!!! 330.2 HP RWHP!!!!!

Im a diy brake and tune-up guy, but in no sense a VERY good mechanic. Would I replace a clutch out - no. Will I install the charger myself so I can troubleshoot issues with it - hell yes

Would my friend who is helping me with the install swap a motor or replace a clutch - yes.

Ive gone over the Comptech install procedure 10 times already (good bathroom reading), and there isnt anything I couldnt do myself; at least, there doesnt appear on paper to be anything I cant handle

good post Jimbo, hopefully some others will chime in.

i have the vortech also...get the polished one it's really good looking...and I've had absolutely no trouble the FI makes the car much more streetable from every aspect. The biggest issue seems to be making sure you're running rich enough not too lean. You'll like the results

I have a Comptech with 12k on it (78k total). I bought it because of it's reliability history (my S is my only car) and I knew I could install it in a weekend. The install is not hard for a decent back-yard mechanic. See my install here I did NOT use a VAFC or do any tuning, and I'm sure I could get more power out of it if I did, but it runs fine out of the box.

Driveability is great. Other than having to give it a little more gas to move off from a dead stop (which you get used to quickly), it drives like a stock car, but with more power. Gas mileage has dropped 2-3 mpg overall but then I know I'm using my right foot a lot more too - rear tire life has decreased from 25-30k per set to less than 20k.

There are two things I dislike:
  • There is a fuel smell that won't go away. Mostly when parked, but it's annoying as hell. There is NO fuel leak.
  • The fuel pump sometimes whines VERY LOUDLY - loud enough to be heard outside the car if you are stopped. Almost never heard at highway speeds, but sometimes it's audible at 30-40 mph.
Comptech is sending me a new fuel hose to see if it fixes the smell, but they have not ponied up to replace the pump yet.

As far as recommending it, I would only recommend it to S2000 owners I meet, talk to, hear about, or reply to their posts.

Actual gas mileage info - I used to get 29-30 all highway, 27-28 with my "normal" mix of 90% highway, 10% city. I just ran two tanks through - one with 81% highway, and got 25.5 mpg. Next tank was 77% highway, and I got 27.0 mpg. Go figure - I was driving higher speeds on the second tank and some of it was with the top down, first tank was all top up. So overall it's 26.2, which is not bad at all.

I think if you are looking for testamonials from "2 years or more", you are strictly talking about Comptech. The Vortech has only been in widespread use for about 1/2 - 3/4 of a year.

I believe Wesmaster has had his Comptech S/C on for over 40k miles without any direct problems.

I recall "GaryJ", "SCS2K" and "jerrypeterson" as being some of the earliest Comptech guys here but they don't seem to post often anymore. If you really wanna know, PM those guys.
