Hello, everyone. My name's johnny, and this is one of my first posts here in at S2K online. I was thinking of presenting this question on another forum, but why not put in on the table in a forum dedicated solely to the S2000? Seeing as how it's half way through 2001, the time is nearing for me to purchase a new car for myself. The problem is, I no longer know what I want anymore. Here are my choices: the S2000, Impreza WRX, Acura RS-X, IS300. There are so many nice cars out on the market right now, that I just can't seem to make up my mind. Each car has its own charm and its own strengths and weaknesses. Don't get me wrong, I have burning passion for the S2K, but I just want a second opinion. So, please, everyone throw in their 2 cents.

This is off-topic, but I recommend the S2000 for warm, dry weather, and the WRX for wet and snowy weather. If cost isn't an issue, then there are other solutions such as 911 turbo + BMW all wheel drive.

Sorry fer posting in the wrong section. But to answer a question of yours, My price range is anything up to $38,000. I just don't want to make a purchase that I'll later on regret.

I donno... if it's your only car, the s2000 might not be the best choice. my daily is a hybrid CRX, my long tripper(every weekend, 700 miles) is a Maxima... and the S2000 is just for top down fun to drive.

The S2000 is really not in the same "class" as the other. It's got two seats, top down, small trunk kind of a car. Where are the other three you listed are a lot more "practical". WRX is neat, but I can't live with the styling for a daily car. IS300 is "factory rice" to me... nice car, but just too much for me... those tail lights did it in. the RS-X is probably neat... a car I would consider as a primary transportation/fun car.

Probably didn't help you too much... but those are my thoughts.

Ok, the thing is, right now, i have a '97 'teg LS sedan. I'm figuring I'll be able to keep that. I guess that was another question of mine. Is the S2K a bad choice for a daily driver? Right now, I can't even comprehend that statement, maybe just cuz i love that car so much and because I don't even own one. Heh. For now, let's say that the car would definitely have to be a daily driver.
Wow, thanks for the feedback, guys! I love the atmosphere in this forum. Let's get some more opinions up in here.

The term "daily driver" comes up all the time. IMO it's different for each individual. People talk about SUVs being great daily drivers because of it's versatality but I don't have much use for an SUV except that it's ability in the rain is useful for me. It really depends on what you use your "daily driver" for right? My daily driving includes driving to school. Besides a school bag and a girl with her school bag I don't really need to have "storage space" I don't own an S2K by the way. But these considerations apply to everyone.

You should test drive all those cars.
The S2K will be the most fun. IS300, if you like the styling you'll get a pretty good all around car but wait 'till they come out with a stick. You should choose b/w the IS300 and RSX first as they are pretty similar cars. WRX is a bit different.

My s2000 is my daily driver and I have no regrets.

It really depends on where you live... I live in Central Texas and the weather is great year round. Also, I have no need for a lot of storage space -- I think I have filled up my trunk once (in the 3 1/2 months I have owned her), and that was recently on a trip to dallas-- And I had: a cot, a sleeping bag, two suit cases, and my car cover. I'm not trying to say it has a large trunk-- by no means is the trunk large... I'm just saying that some people do not need a large trunk. And for folks like me this car is actually an excelent daily driver - (I have fun everyday, while others only play on the weekends).

The responses I have received are greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Well, in response to the person who asked about my driving habits, I usually drive when I have to go to class or if I have to take someone to class. From time to time, if I have to spend time @ home, I'll take a boatload of laundry with me. Other than that, I shouldn't experience too much trouble with trunk space, no? Oh, and I currently reside in Irvine. Lots of nice open roads with nice twisties...
