Just installed the AEM knockoff CAI from eBay and was wondering if what Im hearing is typical for a CAI. At idle there is a "hummm" from the corner where the filter is mounted. Ive heard intakes make a "hisss" at idle on other cars, but this is a definite humming sound. Im sure its coming from the corner of the car and not the engine. Also, its quite loud at WOT at 6k rpm and above. Is it normal for it to sound realy deep under 6k and then more "raspy" burble above 6k?

SOTP it feels a bit snappier up top and throttle response is slightly better. YMMV

I've had a AEM CAI on the s2000 for 2 weeks now and it also makes a humming noise.

As for the 'snappieness' could this be your right foot obbeying your ear for a better sound? But I agree with you the car feels more responsive with the AEM CAI arround 3500 rpm and between 6000-7700 rpm, but I am not sure it isn't just an illusion. A niece illusion

Everything you describe is indeed normal for a CAI.

i personally think all cold air intakes makes the car sound like a piece o sh it.

outside of mugen for those in love with da jdm, i'd stick with the stock one. it's a beautiful piece.

WRS2K...he's a trip. Never has a nice thing to say about anything.
BWHAHAHA. Fun to have him around though...sort of like the one kid in study hall you could always count on to stir things up.

The stock intake is for sound control first, performance a very distant second. If you're the kind of owner who likes to keep things stock, it's cool but don't expect to hear much roar until VTEC. A quiet intake for a sportscar is sort of an oxymoron. That's like buying a Viper and complaining about the engine noise or going to the circus and bitching about the clowns. As for the asthetics, to me, it just looks like one big performance robbing box with an accordian tube. A nice anodized CAI pipe or Mugen-style carbon fiber piece makes the engine bay look more aggressive and purposeful than that picnic basket currently in there.
Then again, it's just one owners opinion.
