Garmin Street Pilot 3 with DELUXE package VS Navman. Anyone have, and best price?
How does the Navman compare to the color Garmin Street Pilot 3 with DELUXE package?
I found a place I can get the Garmin III new for $645 TOTAL VS $850 for the NAVMAN. Is this the best portable unit out?

Better and more capable than both. I tried the Garmin and read about the NavMan.

Based on the NavMan specs - it is a glorified Pocket PC, without the capabilities for a lot more. The Pocket PC/Compact Flash/Mapopolis system is more complete and uses the same data source, NavTech. I just got the May 2003 update for mine.
Screen sizes are approximately the same on all.
Oh, and the Dell Axim is down to $293...

I read those articles recently. www.gpspassion.com is another good site for GPS reviews.
Note that the Navman crashed on them and has to have external power - no battery option. Garmin took longer to reroute and they had problems with the voice commands.
If you have a Pocket PC, you can download Mapopolis, with a trial map for your area. After 2 years of reading about a unit, I did some research on the topic. So far, I have used the unit on several drives and I have had no crashes or slow downs. With the logging feature it allows me to see my actual speeds in a stretch of highway. With touch screen and ability to program my Pocket PC buttons to whatever I want to do, I can reroute to a new location in seconds in the car. The Navman locks out input while moving over 5 mph.

Jason, you are the one making the choice. I already gave you my recommendation. No one here I am aware of has the Navman. Many have the StreetPilot. I didn't like either one. So, if you can't decide, either buy them both and return the one you don't like or save your money. Pretty simple, time to crap or get off the pot.

I need one that can be tranferred into many vehicles without hassle. The garmin seems to be just as good as the Nav man, and about $250 cheaper. That's what I'm probably going to go with. The Navman also doesn't have battery power, and only comes with 64mb of ram vs 128 standard on Garmin.

I have a Navman and pretty happy with it. It's very transfer it from one vehicle to another. Even though Navman comes with only 64 internal memory you can buy an additional SD memory card up to 256 or even 512 Mb. You wouldn't feel the difference if the map is in internal or external memory.
Here are the reasons why I choose the Navman:
- completely new model - March 2003;
- smaller size than Street Pilot;
- ability to buy a widely used SD memory cards;
I was looking at possibilities to use my PDA as a GPS, but there were several issues: like choosing a right mount, no speakers (a have a Palm, not a Pocket PC), smaller screen, etc.
Let me know if need additional information.
Thanks,
Vassili
