Default Aluminium Hydro pulley faliure (BIG style)

For those that have the Pro Autosports Hydro Pulley be careful, had mine on about 2 months then today went for a short drive, after about 5 miles a squeak/whistling sound started to develop from the engine bay, (like water pump failure sound)
Within the time it took me to gently pull over to the side the sound had developed into a very loud groaning creek, this is what I found.

As you can see it has fractured and sheared on all the arms and while in that short space of time it also managed to serrated the drive belt to a degree that it also needs replacing. I think I got away lucky that no other damage was done god knows what damage could have been done if it had flowen apart!

The pulley is made from 2024 aluminium and I would assume that this is not strong enough or there is a design fault.

I would recomend for those that have one fitted to check for hairline cracks.

did you by chance over torque it? It does look like you've screwed the bolts down pretty tight by the indenations.

Is this pulley "hub centric", or do the 3 bolts center it? Did it look like it had any vibration in it while it was spinning? Did the belt get blurry at all if you revved the engine?

Actually I am currious if the pulley or belt had any sort of vibration BEFORE it cracked. It could have either been warped or bent from the manufacturer, or knocked with something after the install.

I purchased a hydro pulley awhile back and tracked the car a couple of times with it on with no ill effects for what it is worth,
Since then I installed Emc2's setup now being offered by Ricks2k.com and have only tracked the car once! I am glad you pulled over when you did, That could have been messy!
