Ignorant people piss me off
Hey..this isnt really a street encounter, but this has been really bothering me and i need somewhere to vent. On a daily basis, i encounter people who assume that they know absolutly everything about cars, when in fact they know nothing. The other night, my friend and i were rolilng around in Maryland in his STI, when some kid in a civic comes up and revvs at us at a light, and makes stupid hand motions. His car sounded like a cross between a weedwacker and a lawn mower...He insisted on racing and insulting my friend's STI. We did not race him because we didnt want to sink down to their level. Also whenever someone knocks on the S2000 it makes me even more upset. The other day i got into a big argument with this guy in my class, trying to explain to him taht the s2000 was indeed a rwd car and not a Frontwheel drive car. Do any of you out there have any kind of these encounters, if so please share them.

I have had 2 such STUPID encounters in the past 3 weeks or so.
1) Rented a vid and one of the clerks comes out to check out my car as I'm about to leave. He asks how it handles in a really condescending manner. I say pretty good. Then he asks why I would spend all that money on Honda. I gave him the low down on all it's positive aspects and the fact that in the Roadster category, nothing comes close bang for buck (mind you, this before the 350Z was out as I purchased the car last year). He starts to change his mind and agrees with me...Before I leave, I ask him what car he would have purchased in the roadster category.....he says the Audi TT. Nuff said...
2)Parking the car, neighbour comes by and starts asking about the car. Again, he asks why spend soo much on Honda...Went through the same schpeel(<--sp?) as I did with the first guy and in a few minutes, he's starting to agree with me...Again, before I leave I ask him what car he would have purchased....he says Miata...Nuff said.

I had a guy trying to tell me my car is FWD also. The guy insisted that my car wasn't available in RWD and he was serious.
I popped the hood and showed the inline (not transverse) engine layout and had him try to explain how my car could be FWD. To add salt to the open flesh wound, I showed him my rear diff. I told him that unless my car is really speshal (special), I can't see how they would equip a TORSEN diff on my rear axles on a FWD car.
You should've seen the look on that guy's face.

It's really sad.
I tend to come across plenty of people who seem to know everything about cars, when in fact all they do is read all the current magazines and regurgitate it back to their friends or anyone they're trying to impress. Anyone remember Good Will Hunting?
Or, I come across people that kinda missed the boat. Example: I was at a restraunt and the waiter was asking about my car. He then proceeded to tell me about how he ordered high compression pistons and Toda cams for his Civic so he could raise the compression before he adds a turbo. Then I realized he was serious.
Good grief.
